Hi! My boyfriend and I just adopted sweet Domino from our local humane society Sunday 3/12 his medical records show he had his amputation surgery on 2/22 but from what I found (in summary) it was a joint issue and he didn't use the leg anyways - so he is adjusting very well and is very happy and energetic.

We have another disabled kitty (we found her on the side of the road a year ago with serious back damage - we believe she was hit by a car) and a sweet Rottie. The kitties are indifferent about one another and give each other space - no hissing or swatting thank goodness just an adjustment to not being the only kitty getting snuggles at bedtime I guess.

We slowly introduced Domino to our Rottie Annabelle and Annabelle kind of made a loud noise around Domino (not really a growl or bark, when I heard it she sounded more surprised than threatening) while he was walking out of our room to the bathroom to eat/use the bathroom, she was reprimanded and we reintroduced them again the next day and she was fine.

But now Domino urinated in the bedroom and at first, I thought that maybe we needed an easier litter box for him but then I saw he got in the litter box to go no. 2 just fine. I read somewhere on the internet that when they poop in the litter box but don't pee in the litter box they are frightened.

Is there a remedy to Dominos' fear of the dog? What can I do to help him feel safe?

Hi and welcome! Thank you for adopting Domino and having such a huge heart for your other animals too!

I'm not a cat expert so I'm hoping other cat experts here will chime in. Peeing outside appropriate places sounds a little like fear, or marking territory in the dog world.

Being that his life is so different and strange right now, I would give Domino the space to figure things out around Annabelle. She sounds like a really, really great dog who is willing to give Domino his space, so in time I have a feeling he will figure that out and get more comfortable.

In the meantime you might want to try DAP pheromones in the house to give him a sense of calm. Others here have said they work really well to ease anxiety in their cats.

Not sure how much this helps but stay tuned for feedback from others. Your future posts won't need to wait for approval so post away.
