After visiting the hospital almost every day and sometimes twice a day and seeing no improvement, I decided to bring them home. Luckily, on the day I brought them home, Mignon had started eating on his own. After consulting with the doctor and receiving numerous instructions and medications, my friend helped me get them home.  Jolie, immediately dived under the sofa and Mignon was also disoriented.   I tried giving the renal formula to Jolie which he immediately spat up.  The weight of the newly intensified acute care routine and the expense of it all washed over me and I just caved. I spent the evening away, giving myself a chance to recover and Mignon and Jolie time to reorient to being home. Several hours later when I came back, both Mignon and Jolie came to the door to greet me. Taking it slowly this time, I looked, and saw that someone had been eating quite of bit of dry food. I hoisted Jolie up to the counter and got him to accept some syringe feeding.  Then I took time to brush out their fur and do some dry shampooing. Then I had to go to work, but when I got back I was able to syringe feed Jolie a substantial amount of renal formula and do his saline solution IV.  Then they both got their meds down and all without vomiting.  I felt better when I realized I could ease back into the care routine and, even though I had exhausted my finances, at least I felt I had done my best. (I had almost begged the hospital to reduce the fees for me or put me on a pay schedule, but they basically told me that I would be charged the same as any other person.)

I will minimize hospital visits and try to get adequate medications to do full time at home care.

Mignon and Jolie are very happy to be back home and seem reasonably content and pain-free.

I feel more calm and accepting of the present reality.

Continued thanks to all for your guidance during this really rough patch....

Honest to goodness edward, think I can hear some "relief" in your voice .  You and the boys are  settling back into a normal routine that is far less stressful than what you have been experiencing the past week.

So glad you got away for a few hours when you first got home. Clearly you and Minion and Jolie needed some time to decompress and teorient to the normalcy of being home.

I just love that they both came to greet you when you got home. And they are getting nutrients one way or another, Plus getting their meds. So all things considered things are certainly better than they were at the hospital.

Thank you so much for taking the time to update since you've been home. As you said, they are comfortable and pain-free and that's a win!

PS I'm really sorry you got such a negative comment regarding trying to do a payment plan. I think it was a pretty special circumstance for you to have two cats in at the same time being treated for the same thing and, obviously quite expensive. Again, just sorry they wouldn't work with you.

I agree, Sally. We hear a big difference in your text; I am so happy to see it!!!  I do see some significant changes since they are home!!!!

I'm not surprised that there is no deal at the hospital, and I'm not defending them in any way. It is still the same care, meds, and time. Their hands are tied; if they could do for one, they would have to do for another. .BUT YES, if only!!!  No payment plan through them is also not hard to believe, only because we have dealt with teaching hospitals. I'm not sure if yours is a teaching hospital.

I have no idea if you have Care Credit there, but making payments to Care Credit can be helpful in these situations. ( ONLY IF you can make the payments in the allotted time they offer; otherwise, it's a rip-off. The fees for this stay, both kitty's meds, etc., and the care credit would help in the short term but maybe NOT the long term, depending on how long the offer was for.

As Sally has stated, you have gone above and beyond for the boys, and ditto Jerry, too; all the money in the world cannot fix medical issues. At one point, being hospitalized caused more problems (IMO) than receiving love and care at HOME. Never second-guess yourself for bringing the boys home!! You have and will continue to do your best, Edward!!! We all do the best we can with our resources, and yes, we all, well, most of us, have to draw a line in the sand, and it's never easy to do. With sand anyway, we can move the line, as Sally said at one time on here;)

So I have an idea to start a GoFundMe page to help with these expenses; lovely people help in such cases, but to what degree? It can't hurt to start one and see. It's not allowed to be posted here, BUT if you start one, say.

Keep healing, boys, and you too, Edward  (((((((HUGS))))

Give those sweet boys kisses from us!!!

💝💝💝

Holly. You have such a cool head during such stressful times!

I'm glad it comes across that way - not always & you can't see me🤭! You hear my" help/fix" mode! Ask all you can to see if we can help in any way.🫂

It sounds like they are feeling better already just by being at home! With all that you three have been through, it's no wonder everyone felt like hiding out from exhaustion. I hope the coming week brings you more healing and lots of together time.

I'm sorry about the vet bills situation. It's not easy to cover those costs of care, and I agree that if there's any way you can work with Care Credit, or friends and family to help out, that would take a load off your shoulders so you can focus on their medical needs at home.

Hello all

Jolie went in for a follow-up today. His blood count has gone slightly down so he is taking iron in addition to the other meds. He did get an injection that stimulates rbc production. He had been eating on his own albeit very little. I am giving syringe feedings.  At home Jolie has been very active and can jump up to the bed.

Today was a good day because both boys were in a good mood and there was lots of purring.

Even after doing the forced feeding and iv injections, Jolie put his front paw on my neck and gave me many kisses, as if to say it's alright .I think it's a lesson in forgiveness.

Oh, thank heavens, we are so happy to see this update. eating a little is better than none and with your assisting it matters;  Keep doing what you are doing, Edward. Jolie's numbers increased before with the iron, so it likely will again, and he is HOME and HAPPY  that is what counts.

Chin scratches to both boys please.

Jolie is definitely  a fighter!!!   Keep on keeping  on Jolie!!!  We are all cheering for you!!!

This is such a good update!  Your care for both boys is extraordinary.   Be sure and take care of yourself while caring for them.

Would love a picture of the boys laying on your lap happily purring .  The visual of Jolie putting his paw on your neck and giving you kisses.  Priceless!
