So far I am keeping track in my head but you are right;I should keep a journal. I am going to try putting more time between medication and iv and suture care.

Gmarket says delivery has started so maybe I'll have the BP cuff by end of next week.

There was no more vomiting today (he vomited at about 10 yesterday morning, so thats 14hours ago). It's 12:04am now and he is sleeping peacefully next to the big bed on his little stairs. He put his front paw on my neck and licked my face earlier so I guess I am forgiven for yesterday morning.....

Yes, it helps when we have more than one meds or supplement & more than one issue to monitor.

Jolie is not upset with you. It seems he is doing really well with these fluids. Surprisingly, many kitties don't mind them, and some enjoy receiving them. We know it makes Jolie feel better, and he does/will associate that.

It's good to hear that there is no more vomiting. Make a note of it and the time, date, and anything else relevant; trust me, we can't keep it all in our heads even when we try. Little things slip by. Well, for me anyway if I don't make a note of it.🥴

I'm so grateful for my log to refer to, and so is the vet. I send it to her once a month per her request.

Get some rest yourself 😉
Hugs

Ohh I'll bet tasting that medication is what made him vomit. I know I would! Hopefully that's the end of that story.

YAY for the new blood pressure device coming to you. I also think it's smart to compare against the one at the vet clinic. Holly is always full of so much great advice!

Cheers to continued pawsitive updates! Give those boys scritches from us!

It was a good day today. I accomplished all his treatments and meds and there was no vomiting. He is also continuing to eat on his own, even eating the royal canine renal dry food. I felt comfortable enough to spend some time away from home. This just might be the first day of the new normal. It's a good thing since I have to start back to work on Monday

I have been looking at horror story reports on Facebook from people whose cat is sent home right after surgery saying how their cat 'screaming and flailing around'. I feel lucky that Jolie was well taken care of at the hospital for 3 days before being released to go home.I don't know what I would have done in a similar circumstance.

Oh, that's right, you have been on vacation. Did you think about getting a little camera so you can check in on the kitties while at work? If not, look into it, I think it will help you feel more comfortable. I'm glad you got to get out too!!

Excellent news and Yay for the new normal. Whoo hoo!! Keep it up Jolie!!!smiley_clapsmiley_clapsmiley_clap

That was not you and Jolie thank heavens!!!

I know i feel the same way. Purrkins stayed 3 nights 4 days. Both Jolie and Purrkins were under great care!

Too many cats are not sent home with proper pain management either.  It is horrifying for the cat and the human!

Love to both the boys please!

Since I originally posted on the wrong thread, I did read your post Edward about the horror stories about people picking up their cats the same day of the surgery. That was me and it was HORRIBLE! You are right about them frailing around. That was Petunia. It was the scariest thing I’ve been experienced. She screamed the loudest screams I’ve ever heard when she fell on her sutures side. I had to call my brother for him to come over as I held her down. We had to literally restrict her movement. This was the only way I was able to sleep that night (I only got 2 hrs). I didn’t feel prepared at all. It was the worst night of my life. 0/10 Do not recommend, unless PREPARED!

Poor Petunia! I hope everything is OK now. I am fortunate my Jolie stayed in hospital for 3 days before coming home.

Well, I am back to work this week and trying to work and get all the treatments in correctly is my new balancing act.

I took Jolie back in for a follow up on Tuesday. The sutures aren't healing as quickly as hoped but the vet was able to remove a few more. Fur is starting to grow in now and cover over the horror of amputation, like a thin layer of white/gray snow. Blood work came back good. Kidney function is low but stable. I am (still) trying to adjust to the new normal of daily saline solution injections. Injecting into the same general area every day makes me nervous. Are there any serious side effects to doing this. I am always worried that I will do something wrong that will cause an infection.

One very good thing is both Jolie and Mignon seem to really like the renal cat food and Jolie is still eating well on his own with no syringe feeding from me. I expected to see a weight gain at follow-up exam but it is the same at 4.74 kilos. But the good point is he didn't lose any weight.

Blood pressure at the vet was a high 180. I think the blood pressure cuff will arrive today so looking forward to compare readings

♡♡♡to all and continued thanks for all the good words and encouragement which is so appreciated.....

Jolie's incision is making progress, his fur will be 100% again before you know it. Everything else sounds good!

I've never had to give daily injections, just monthly, so I honestly can't answer your question about the risk of giving injections in the same area. I'm guessing that Holly has some insight on that.

Soooo awesome that Jolie doesn't need the syringe anymore. Stable weight is probably exactly what you want at this point. Did your vet have any concerns?

Welcome back!

Well I came home from work to find out that Jolie had vomited a few times during the day. He vomited once more after I got home. His brother had had diarrhea in the cat litter and Jolie had stepped in it so it took some time to clean that up. I am pretty sure it's the renal cat powder food additive that is making him vomit.

I guess I had better not do the evening iv. The stress would probably make him vomit again.i'm just going to have to let him rest and hope for the best. His vet is not on duty today. I can only just hope that he will be alright after he rests. He's sleeping now....upsetting.....he has been doing so well.....

Bummer.  Jolie indeed had been doing soooo well!!!

You've probably  pinpointed the reason for the vomit being that powder..  Hopefully some rest  will help him feel better.  Jist check with your Vet when you can and see what alternative may be ava.

Hugs

PS.  Is he drinking water okay to help hydrate  after the vomit?

Oh, curious why brother  had diarrhea at same time.  Do you think he got into something?

Im sorry the boys are having a time.
Ditto. I have to wonder why both are sick?

Might it be the change of you going back to work? Could Mignon have eaten the kidney powder?

I worry about skipping fluids when Jolie is throwing up, especially he needs the fluids without throwing up. Throwing up can dehydrate. I dont' know how often they are asking you to to give them. I would call when they are back in the office for the anti-nausea to have on hand for Jolie.

Inquire about another phosphorus binder maybe- if that is what you're referring to. PHOSPHORUS BINDERS it might help switching

Complications are very uncommon in sub q which is why so many can and do fluids at home. Your needles are sterile every use. IF you would ever see swelling at the site, you would call the vet have them take a look and IF there was heart disease then yes dangerous. Also getting into a routine now that your back to work, pick a time for fluids that would work best for you say. 7 pm whatever time works and thats is your routine, Jolie will also get used to that knowing ok about time for me to have fluids. Routine will help you both and it will become routine and no a dread thing.

Edward, you are a fantastic cat dad/ pet owner. You will/would know if there is any issue with the sub q's.  Trust that. I have 100% faith in you. If you ever want to join that kidney support group, it is packed with all the info and more. People just like you are doing this daily and all things kidney-related. I know it's a lot of information and a lot to learn. Feline-CRF-Support Group

Look how far you have gotten Jolie thus far. I give you a gold stars🎖️🎖️🎖️I'm delighted to hear weight is stable thats a great sign no weight loss and not needing to syringe food. You will get over this hurdle too. I'm sorry this had to happen first week back to work! UGH!!!

((((HUGS ))))& love to the boys, please
