Does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative to a plastic cone of shame ? I’m trying to be a proactive as possible as I prepare for my kitty’s amputation of her left rear leg on Thursday. She hates the cone and we’re thinking she might have a plastic allergy because they really irritates the skin on her ears when she wears them. While I would love to try an inflatable collar or a fabric one I just can’t imagine it would be successful in preventing her from licking her incision. She’s quite persistent.. any suggestions or ideas are welcome. I’m pretty crafty and am open to DIYing something if I have to.

My first thought was the inflatable  do it,  but then I read on about your spunky kitty probably  not  keeping it on.

Some people have ised little baby onesies to cover the inc and p0reve t scratching  and chewing.

Our brilkiant kitty members will chine in with suggestions.👌

I would love to fashion a onesie for her I’m just not sure how effective it would be for a kitty with a rear leg amp...

I too am preparing for the amputation of a rear leg on our kitten.  Have you looked into VetMed Solutions?  They have a amputee suit that zips up the back and it is sewn up on the leg opening. Don't know if this link will work but you can type it in.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Have a look at https://gear.tr.....-of-shame/

Perhaps you can do something similar by putting the fabric cone on the inside closest to your cat's ears and the plastic one on the outside.

Thank you for the suggestion Barb! I just looked at the link and while it looks interesting... I don’t want to spend that much on a recovery suit. I ordered a 5 pack of baby onesies (0-3 months is what Purrkins’ mom suggested for a cat about my size) and will see what I can do with them.... I’m thinking if I cut a large enough tail hole that it may be feasible that she can still go to the bathroom in it... we shall see...

Hi Kerren! I thought about lining the current cone with fabric or a fabric cone... perhaps I will try this if the onesie doesn’t work...

Here's another link from Kitty Purrkins. It may already be one of the links that others have given you, but it is a do-it-yourself for a onesie.

Great suggestion. What's even better is if you purchase a VetMed Wear Amputee Suit from the Tripawds Gear Shop, the proceeds help keep the community online 😉 We actually helped the company develop the suit for amputees, and are resellers for this pawesome product. The best part is that the suit can be used later on if a pet gets an allergy, hot spot or needs another surgery.

Thanks for your support!
