Jen and Strummer,
I'm sorry to hear that amputation is not possible. You've gone through so much and I understand that receiving this news is very difficult particularly after finding a vet that you like.
I can understand that further testing may seem futile. I firmly believe in testing if there is an opportunity for treatment. Perhaps Jerry's suggestion might help.
I will tell you that it's just as beautiful and life-affirming to just continue what you are doing with pain management , keeping Strummer comfortable with loving, play, brushing and food that he loves.
Wishing you and your family peace and comfort as you move forward in your life with Strummer.
Kerren and Tripawd Kitty Mona
Thanks everyone. 🙂

Oh no.. I am so sorry. This is not the news you needed... damn. I am really glad that is pain is being managed well, did they give you any options for if the pain worsens?I just want to give you a big hug, I cannot tell you how sorry I am. I can only tell you to love on Strummer right now, while you can. How old are your kids? Are they old enough to explain things to?
None of us know how much time he has left, and I pray his quality of life continues to be good for a long stretch. If you need anything, you can always pm me.
One day at a time, that is all you can do right now. Do you trust this doctor's opinion? Do you need a second opinion? I am not at all sure what I would do right now, and you have already been through so much.
Yes, we have a few days worth of Buprenorphine. I have a plucky 11 year old son who is able to handle pretty much 100% of the truth better than anyone in the family probably! My daughter is 16, and in her words "Strummer is the only thing that gives me joy." This is what she said, then tears started rolling down her cheeks, and she walked out of the room when we told her almost two weeks ago that he had cancer. 🙁 She suffers from depression, and I'm really afraid of how she will handle this. She's specifically told us she "doesn't want to be in the loop".
I do trust this Dr.'s opinion. I also just spoke with another surgeon at Sage who said that she's particularly concerned about the tumor on his spleen. She says she's never removed a benign tumor from a cat's spleen, only malignant ones. She also said they can cause a massive hemorrhage if left unchecked as well.
Thank you Jerry, for the infomation about the alternative tumor treatment. That sounds amazing! So many things are done in other countries that should be done more here, that's for sure!!
I probably needs some time to just sit with things and be with the Strumbum, but truly thank everyone for all their support and care. I'll update when I can.
Just thinking of you and wondering how things are going with Strummer?
