Tripawd Tuesday: Stanley Turned Trauma into Triumph

Say hello to Stanley, our Tripawd Tuesday hero who turned trauma into tail wags, belly rubs, and full-speed sprints at the park.

You can share your Tripawd Tuesday love story with us, too!

Recovery Mode: Activated. Stanley Wasted No Time Reclaiming Life

Only two days after amputation, Stanley hit the ground running—literally—snagging some of the cat’s food and making it up three flights of stairs all on his own. His Cleveland family, including dad Todd and his feline sibling, proves that with love, anything is pawsible!

Tripawd Tuesday Q&A: Stanley’s Story

How old is your Tripawd?

3 years, 5 months

When and why did your Tripawd lose a leg?

Our buddy Stanley was going to the groomer for his Christmas bath on 12/20/2023 at 1:30 pm. A Cleveland City Garbage truck was speeding down our street of 7 houses (not a trash day) and Stanley got spooked. He lunged, and the leash snapped. He ran into the street and was hit by the garbage truck driver who was on his phone, speeding, and never stopped.

Stanley was trapped under the garbage truck and all the skin and hair on his right front leg was torn from his body. We rushed him to the hospital, and they were not able to save his leg due to the extensive skin/hair damage. He was in the hospital for two days.

When we picked him up, we had practiced transporting him with slings and a chest harness since we had a three story house and slept together on the third floor. When we got him home, he immediately went to the cat’s food dish and nibbled on her food, then did some counter surfing and then made his way up to the third floor unassisted.

Tripawd Stanley

He is our hero. He hasn’t looked back for one second. He has taught us more about adapting to adverse events than he could have imagined. He is strong, the happiest dog alive, and loves to spread love.

How did your Tripawd adapt to life on three? Did the reality match your expectations?

He has adapted better than we could have imagined. We are so amazed at his recovery and his now 16 months post amputation. He continues to inspire us.

What are your Tripawd’s favorite things to do?

Stanley loves snuggling, days at the park running and playing with his friends, and he loves treats and belly rubs. He is so affectionate and is pure love.

What is the biggest lesson you learned from your Tripawd so far?

Nothing will stop this boy or break his spirit. He is a master class in dealing with what has been dealt to him. He never complains and is always ready to hug a kiss everyone he meets.

What is your best advice to someone who is about to go through amputation with their pet, or someone who is thinking of adopting a Tripawd?

Don’t hesitate. Tripawd dogs are amazing. They will truly inspire you. I cry happy tears every day Stanley is in my life. He has overcome this tragic event with grace, dignity, and love in his heart.
