Tripawd Tuesday Q&A: Sydney’s Story

How old is your Tripawd?

3 years old

She knows the best spot in the house

When and why did your Tripawd lose a leg?

She lost her leg due to an injury or deformity; we are not exactly sure. She was found and brought to the shelter with her leg badly injured, and the vet decided it would be best to amputate because of the infection.

Sydney loves her neighborhood walks

How did your Tripawd adapt to life on three? Did the reality match your expectations?

You would never know she is missing a leg! Nothing is stopping this gorgeous girl from enjoying a good walk outside!

Navigating her way around the house is no problem, but she sometimes needs assistance to get on/off a tall chair or sofa; we got her a ramp, which she learned to use right away!

She loves walking in the park and going on strolls in the neighborhood to visit our neighbors!

Quiet moments with her are the best kind💕

What are your Tripawd’s favorite things to do?

She is very affectionate with people and loves to cuddle up to watch TV; she would love to be someone’s lap dog! She rides well in the car inside of a tote bag or breathable crate. She does well at the vet (does not get overly anxious).

Sue is a calm yet adventurous girl who needs someone that is able to give her the nurturing, loving home she deserves. She spends time resting at my feet while I work from home.

She’s perfectly content relaxing in her bed, chewing on bones or bully sticks. When we leave the house, she does fine on her own (no crate) until we return.

She is housebroken, will go potty outdoors & indoors on pee pads. Extremely intelligent and calm demeanor. She’s ready to explore a beautiful life as a Tripawd!

Sydney learned her ramp in no time! 🐾

What is the biggest lesson you learned from your Tripawd so far?

From the moment I agreed to foster her and brought her home, she has taught me more about resilience than I have ever known.

I’ve learned that there are misperceptions of Tripawds, and I’m grateful to know more about three-legged dogs as her foster mom!

There is nothing keeping her from living an extraordinary life! She came to our home at a time when I needed a reminder of my own inner strength.

While I have been caring for her, she has been teaching us, too!

Sydney’s got her eye on the treat shelf 👀

What is your best advice to someone who is about to go through amputation with their pet, or someone who is thinking of adopting a Tripawd?

I would say try not to fret; animals are extremely adaptable in ways that humans underestimate. They may need some special tools and attention to get around, but all of my dogs have had needs in some way or another. It is only a matter of perspective and mindset.

Adopting a Tripawd can be a fulfilling and purposeful experience. I feel that fostering a Tripawd has brought more positive meaning into my life than I ever could have anticipated.

I encourage adopters to consider the joys and quirks of parenting a Tripawd pup; it’s a uniqueness that is not to be taken for granted!

Consider adopting our wonderful Tripawd foster, Sydney!”
