Recently a very thoughtful Tripawd Angel named Dolby sent his large Ruffwear Doubleback Harness to us, with the hopes that a front-leg Tripawd out there could use this pawesome device.  If you are interested, let us know.

I was wondering if you think this would be able to work for a rear-leg tripawd with a LOT of stump left. My labby boy Haiku probably has 2/3-3/4 (or maybe even more) of his femur left, and I love his webmaster harness for helping him load into the car and maneuver on our walks/hikes, but it's a little on the small side for him now that he's done growing, so I've been using it on my other (front-limb) tripawd, Cassidy, since it fits her better and is the only harness that she can't back out of (she's a greyhound so she's shaped strangely even without her missing leg).
I know from reading the reviews that the rear leg straps tend to slip off of rear leg amputees, but with his amount of stump I'm hopeful it'd work for him.

Thank you!

Amanda and Haiku

Hard to say Amanda. Wyatt has a pretty good stump but since it's all muscle and no bone it slips off. Is there any bone left below Hakiu's hip, or just muscle?

He's got quite a bit of bone left. For some reason they amputated only a small amount of his femur instead of most of it.

Well sure, you're more than welcome to see how it works! PM me your address and I'll get that sent to you. Dolby would be so hoppy to see it go to a good home.

PM sent! Thank you and a huge thank you to Dolby and his family for passing this along. If Haiku's nubbin doesn't end up being enough to keep the back leg strap on, I'll be sure to post it back on this board so it can be used by another tripawd.

Thank you,

Amanda and Haiku (and Cassie too since now she'll be able to wear the webmaster full-time!)

We received the harness in the mail yesterday and tried it out on a walk around the block and a romp in the yard (to test how well it would stay on in just about any scenario, though I don't plan on using it when he's running around in fenced-in off-leash areas). So far so good! Haiku's nubbin appears to be enough to hold the back leg strap on (except occasionally when rolling around and playing with his siblings like crazy, which I wouldn't expect it to). I found that by placing a carabiner or s-clip between the two leg straps, above the base of his tail, he was able to keep the leg strap on even when running all-out.

I was also able to try it out with helping him get into the back of my car, and it certainly made lifting nearly 80 pounds of labradorable dog much easier on me! Thank you so much to tripawds and angel Dolby for the harness. I anticipate many, many years of use out of the harness since Haiku is only 2.5! Thank you again so so much!

Haiku decided he'd rather lay down than show off his nubbin in the leg strap. (Cassie's wearing a homemade harness until her hair grows back enough to allow her to wear Haiku's old webmaster without it sliding so much on her (her super narrow chest and lack of hair make it hard to find off-the-rack harnesses that work for her at the moment))

Didn't expect him to go all-out playing while wearing the harness, but he was comfortable enough to run around and wrestle with his siblings.

Thanks for sharing the pics!

If you made Cassie's classy harness, please message us if you're interested in sharing the pattern with others in the Tripawds Downloads Blog .
