Hi - Thunder’s mom here.  Thunder had right hind leg amp on Jan 4th for osteosarcoma. We did not pursue chemo for various reasons. He’s done well. Walks are shorter, more sleeping and he’s so spoiled (but deserves to be for sure).  He’s was given 3-5 months prognosis after surgery although I know everyone is different. At the 3 month mark I was panicking & had his lungs x rayed by our vet (not oncology which I regret a bit).  She thought that everything was looking good.  That was just a few weeks ago.  Tonight though, he’s coughing.  I don’t really know what to expect or look for but I know they said coughing. Can it be that fast?

Hi Kassie and Thunder,

Try not to panic. I know that when we are living with a cancer diagnosis those mets are always on our minds, but coughing can be any number of things like spring allergies for instance. Are things in bloom where you are? They for sure are in our part of the world and we've got lots of sneezing happening here.

The best way to know if Thunders lungs sound off is to pop into your vet's office for a quick listen to his lungs. Your vet should be able to tell with a stethoscope if things sound off. We did that a number of times for Jerry and it put our mind at ease each time we found out our worst fears were not realized.

Hang in there and please let us know what you find out OK? We are here for you and oh, don't forget, no matter what, Thunder is still PAWESOME and living life to the max each and every day! Stay strong and keep the pack order happy, you won't regret it I promise.

For whatever it's  worth, my Happy Hannah never did have a cough.  So, while some dogs do, some don't. Sounds like  Thunder is still being Thunder and showing no signs of discomfort and is still completely  engaged and alert.

What most likely is going on is seasonal  allergies that have really been rough on dogs this year.  Yoir regular  Vet is experienced  in reading xrays so I think you can feel okay about her summation.   Of course, if you feel like something  has changed drastically  and the cough persists consistently  fot seceral days, you can always get another set of xrays yo rule out any pneumonia,  respiratory infection.  etc.

No statistics  don't  mean much around here, but they sure can get into your head and keep you on edge subconsciously.

Thunder is doing well overall and is thoroughly  enjoying all his loving and spoiling.

Hugs

Geez, didn't  expect that at all.  Still be could be a variety  of causes.   But getting  him checked  out is the best thing you can do.  Again, may not be anything and, regardless, whatever "it" is. there are treatments to help on so many levels.

We're  all sending  pawsitive  energy and will look for your update.

Hi there,

So sorry Thunder isn't feeling well. Rene and Sally are right though, could be lots of different things. Hopefully this is just a minor setback and they will be able to get Thunder hopping on and feeling better.

Good luck, sending more pawsitive energy your way and wishes for health and healing.

Update!  Thunder has inflammation in his lungs but no fluid. Prednisone & cough suppressant.  Thanking the heavens above.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

WOAH! Oh my DOG I was so scared for you when I saw your first post today and now I'm jumping up and down with hoppiness!!! WHEEEEE!!!

Isn't it crazy how when we're dealing with cancer, a simpler diagnosis like simple inflammation can make us so happy?

Did the vets say what could be causing it?

She didn’t say. I think it’s just unspoken that it’s probably related to his diagnosis. I was just so glad when she said he was ok and couldn’t think straight.

Thunder is doing well! Every day is a gift 💜.  He started coughing again so my vet is going to keep him on low dose prednisone. He’s still happy & ready for the day including treats from his favorite neighbor and love from his human brothers (home from college).  Thanks for asking!

I’m going to figure out how to post his pic so y’all can see how handsome my boy is.
