HealingPup,
Thanks so much for registering. We were out of town for a few days and just now saw your story here.
Wow. The barbaric acts of cruelty that some humans are capable of never ceases to amaze us. We are so sorry about Buddy and Zero but glad to hear that they survived and have such a great Mom like you to help them through this.
We think you're doing the right thing by getting a second opinion from a specialist. Whereabouts is the specialist located? Just curious. Sharing information and referrals here is always welcomed.
Everyone is right; our dogs are capable of overcoming obstacles with courage that few humans can match. You'll see. Stay pawsitive, because you're so right, Buddy will pick up on your mood.
Hang in there and let us know how things go with the other doctor this week. We'll be thinking of you all.

Thank you everyone! Buddy and I have felt your support as we made some tough choices. He had the best two days yet after the last post and the first night in 4 weeks that he slept soundly all the way through!!!
Our appointment today went well. The Specialist was grateful I sought them out. Had I not Buddy would have been a prime candidate for bone disease (Which, if I am studying right, is the bone cancer that many of the lovely tripawds are battling?).
They went ahead and fit him in for surgery today. They called at 7:30 this evening to let us know that he had come through well and he will be monitered all evening. He felt we had a good chance of saving the leg so they put a plate in his leg to secure the bone together. He should be able to have much more freedom during the healing period this way...
We pick him up tomorrow and I will keep everyone posted on his progress!
Love from our family to yours

Wow, that was swift and decisive! Good for you! You are an awesome pawrent for doing all that you can to help him recover and heal. We send our well wishes and good thoughts for a speedy recovery. Please keep us posted on how he's doing OK? He has such a sweet face
Oh and yes, bone cancer is what many of us Tripawds have here.
Yeay Buddy, you're gonna do just fine!

Yay Buddy...we're pulling for you too! The cancer is truly a monster, and you don't want it!! What a great mom you have to take away that option!

PS How did Zero get his name?

Wow, you made choices as quickly as we did. It's so difficult for you, but so necessary for Buddy. Trouble was diagnosed on a Monday at 4:30PM, saw her second opinion consult at 5:30PM on Tuesday and was in surgery Wednesday morning @ 9AM.
I'll never regret the decisions we made, and you won't either. Lots of healing thoughts for Buddy as he meets his new challenges. Take care of yourself and rest when he does, you will need it the the first few days.

He's doing Great!!!
The surgery was a $1000 more than first quoted, he was in surgery for 4 hours!
So thankful for credit cards!
Totally worth it though. He is wagging his tail more and playing with his toys again for the first time. He does not like me icing after physical therapy though. Poor guy, we get to switch to warming today =)
-Oh, Zero got his name from The Nightmare Before Christmas movie's dog. I was 21 when he stole my heart at the pound in Phoenix, AZ and I loved that movie (I am an artist)!!! It was very fitting because I got him right before Christmas and he was such a FIREBALL. I found out later that Huskies are never ideal as a first dog to own. They are escape artists and very sneaky/willfull. Zero IS so all of those things. I didn't have a name for him yet when I pulled into home, I grabbed his leash to guide him into the house... oh no, he had chewed through the leash and took off down the street. So, here I am, chasing this dog with no name who thinks it is some kind of game (I KNOW he was laughing at me)... we had SO many behavior issues to work through that first year (some we have just accepted as Zero-isms), he was definitely my nightmare before christmas and I loved every second of it, destroyed Christmas tree, presents, cookies, and all =)

So glad he's doing well. They are amazing.

It's great to hear Zero is doing so well!
Just curious ... are you using the Bella's Hot/Cold Pain Relief Pack for heat and ice?
