Hi gang:
We moved up Tika's appoint to yesterday because of the continued vomiting.
Good news:
1. Just gastrointestinal irritation, need to back off the piroxicam, keep up with Pepcid and her chemo drug.
2. Bloodwork for liver and kidneys is rock solid.
3. Doc is really happy overall with her general health.
BUT....Bad news:
She found some suspicious 'spots' in both lungs. Damn, Damn, Damn. (Oh, crap, now I'm tearing up again). The doctor is telling us to not worry, it really, really could be something else. However, we recheck in 6 weeks to see if there's any change in our watch areas.
She also said, if it is mets, then the protocol is working to keep those suckers from growing.
So, it was kinda crappy night last night. However this morning, Tika got really, really tired of my whiny, mopey attitude and let me have it. You truly haven't lived life until you get cussed out by a Malamute! Good for her. I really need to be in her mindset (which is clueless!! hah!)
I know this moment is coming, BUT I'M NOT READY YET!!!!!! I'm also scared, I'll admit that.
Hope everybody is doing well!

PS--I saw on CNN this morning that the 'world's tallest dog', a Harlequin Dane that had been featured on Oprah had to have a front leg amputated due to bone cancer. Maybe Oprah will have him back on and get some exposure for all of us Tripawd families!

Hi Kim & Tika,
Tttttthhhhpt!!!! That's funny that Tika cussed you out! See, dogs have a way of teaching humans how to stay in check. You were paying attention to her lesson. You get an “A.”
We really hope the spots are harmless. It's so hard not to worry, but all you can really do IF and until anything changes is put that in the back of your head and live Tika's way.
I'll tell ya, we opted not to take regular x-rays of my lungs. We were on the road and decided that unless I was showing signs of illness, we would wait. The first x-rays we took were on a whim, 14 months after my surgery. Of course, that's when the doctor saw the mets. Would it have changed anything if we had known sooner? Well, Mom and Dad would've been really mopey and sad, and it might've changed the whole vibe of our road trip. Instead, they remained blissfully ignorant, and we were all very happy. Whether that's good or bad is up to everyone to decide for themselves when they decide to take follow-up x-rays (or not). But ultimately, knowing or not knowing can't change what's happening in our bodies. All that matters is how we deal with life on a daily basis. I prefer to be happy, and live for the moment, and I know Tika does too.
Wow, didn't know that Gibson made it on Oprah. We just got a message from a friend of his, who told us that he mentioned our little family here to Gibson's Dad. Let's keep our paws crossed that he joins us.
Hang in there Kim. Life is too short to spend it worrying about things that haven't happened yet. Now, go play with Tika!
P.S. that is GREAT news about the rest of the visit though! Celebrate the little things!

Cherry too developed an intestinal problem for unknown reasons. In her case, she bloated like a dog suffering torsion. X-rays showed now torsion or blockage. She would not eat for a day, small amounts a food the next day, and restart the cycle all the while throwing up a dawn daily. After two weeks, I moved her over to nothing but ID and that helped. I gave her some Activia for ten days, and that marked the time when things really started to improve. We sill do not really know why, but I am convinced that the chemotherapy treatments have messed with her immune system and her ability to recover. Her blood count has always been excellent, but I think that she will always be vulnerable to a “bug” and that it will now take longer to recover. She is back to her where she was before this problem and will celebrate the finish of her sixth month post diagnosis next week.
Tika will have all our thoughts and prayers that this too will pass and you will be able to set your fears aside for now. I know that like us, you are enjoying every day together for what it is.
