Seems that my specialist didn't do a cytology or biopsy because the x rays were so clear that the diagnosis is osteosarcoma.. I didn't amputate,, I did cyberknife radiation that hopefully killed all the cancer,, My problem: to get the vaccine,, even off-trial, you either need a cytology or biopsy.showing or strongly suggestive of osteosarcoma. I'm thinking because the radiation was successful, there will be nothing to send for testing and hence no vaccine for my dog,. bummer... to say the least. ,,, thoughts? I don't know if this is a screw up? the vet that is part of the vaccine trial assumed the testing results were somewhere in my dog's file.. but alas,, no sample was taken.

Our vets at UC davis did the same thing when Jerry was diagnosed, it was so obvious by x-rays that it was osteosarcoma, and since we weren't doing chemo, further pathology wasn't necessary to stage it.
The vaccine is so new, that vets are now just getting their protocols in order, so I don't think it could have been a mistake. That's my guess.
So did the vet just say no altogether to receiving the vaccine? If so, that may change after it is released and made available to all clinics and perhaps then your pup could receive it.

I haven’t gotten that far yet. I called the trial Vet. that I would get her a sample without realizing that it’s probably not available. I sent a follow-up email asking if there is any advanced techniques like DNA etc as a back up satisfy the requirement? I haven’t haven’t heard back yet. Any thoughts on any advanced techniques to satisfy? I see my onco vet on Tuesday

No, that's a question for your oncologist. I'm curious what they'll suggest. Do keep us posted.
Any thoughts on when the vaccine might be available at all dogs?
No, only once the study is complete and results are submitted to the regulators will we get any sense of when it will be released to go into production. I hope it's faster than the first phase though.

My vet tech called. he says a cytology via needle aspiration with special staiins is needed. This requires anasthesia and shouldn’t be done on same day as chemo. I’ll discuss this more on Tuesday. Perhaps an additional ct can be done during the cytology to see how things are looking?
Hate to be Debby Downer here, but a friend's dog, whose cancer was successfully treated with stereo tactic radiation and chemo, had his leg broken when doing a needle biopsy and they still had to amputate. Heads up.

Since I have the final say on all procedures,, etc, I will tell my vet that I am concerned about the risk of bone break after radiation and chemo and will probably decline the needle stick.. thanks again.... You'd think in 2018, they would have a less invasive procedure to show osteocarcoma.. etc.. thanks,.
