We discovered today that the CCNU isn't working on his histiocytic sarcoma. Sparks has a newly enlarged lymph node just above the amputation area and it has histio cells in it. Bad news. Good news was, his lungs are clear. Today would have been his 3rd CCNU treatment (over 9 weeks). So now we are starting a different treatment, one that seems to be discussed on these boards a lot. He will get doxorubicin in IV form. He had his first dose today and will go back for another dose in 2 weeks. He will have a bloodwork check in 7 days. We might also start him on Palladia either concurrent with, or following his doxorubicin. I think doxorubicin is what Barney B had, and I appreciated reading his story, especially since there is not a lot written about HS.
But despite everything, Sparks is having a great time. He loves the fall weather and we go further and further on our walks everyday. He goes full speed for about 45 minutes now a couple of times a day. The CCNU gave him some stomach and diarrhea problems for a few days following each treatment, but then he bounced back, more happy and active than he has been in months.

Glad to hear he is having a good time and going on longer walks. That is the important thing! He's so adorable.
We did Palladia w/ Abby for about 3 months, so if you have any questions about it you can PM me. (Or if your vet prescribes it, let me know - I still have some 50 mg and 10 mg pills that I'd be happy to send to you... Abby is 45 lbs - looks like Sparks might be smaller than that though, so maybe they are too high a dose for him. Anyway, let me know if you have questions.)

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

yes, we did doxorubicin - five rounds, at three week intervals. some GI issues after round three and four, but all in all, gayle got through it fine. paws crossed it goes well for you guys.

Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.

Well the lymph node news is a bummer but at least you'll be on Plan B now, and that's worked for a lot of folks. We really hope it does for Sparky too.
Glad to hear he's loving life. Aren't our Tripawd heroes just incredible? Go Sparky!

Zip had doxyrub. also and after about 5 days she vomited then had almost uncontrollable diarrhea for 5 days then was real perky for the next 2 weeks. She got it every 3 weeks but I don't know if that was because of her age and the carboplatin she had [10 dosages] but she had 4 doses before the new and different bone cancer was discovered then we went with mitoxitrone. Every dog reacts differently and she was always more the extreme case so hopefully you will sail right through it. Best of blessings for you.
