Does anyone know the deal between frequency of Carboplatin treatments.  My vet wanted 1 every 3 weeks for a period of 5 treatments.  I am coming up on number 3 and due to finances it will have been 5 weeks between treatments.

Is the extra two weeks a bad thing, or am I overthinking this?

Thanks,

S

Hi saabiar, thanks for joining us. Your future posts won't require approval.

Well, honestly, I'm not a vet but I think you're still giving your dog an advantage by doing the chemo when you can. The recommended intervals are all based on averages found in studies of dogs who underwent chemotherapy and their corresponding survival times. But as we like to say here, every dog is different so try not to sweat it (I know, easier said than done!).

And we all understand the high costs of treatment, don't feel badly about that.

We can't wait to hear more about your pup. Do tell!

A "side effect" of this whole up and down journey is "over thinkng" everything!  It just sort of goes with the territory!

Yeah, and to add to what Jerry said, often dogs can't do it every three weeks because of low WBC and kt gets delayed four, sometmes five weeks.

Wishing younthe very best.  And do share more about youtup when you can.   We are all here for you!

Take care,

After delaying our 2nd & 3rd chemo treatments by a week due to low wbc, our oncologist put us on an every 4 week schedule. So, would adding another week onto that make a big difference? I wouldn't think so.

I can also reference a study titled "Predictors of outcome in dogs treated with adjuvant carboplatin for appendicular osteosarcoma: 65 cases (1996-2006)."  Their compiled data showed that in dogs where at least 75% of treatments were received within a 25 day interval versus >25% of treatments were received within a greater than 25 day interval, the difference in median survival time was not statistically significant. (They called it on schedule vs delayed schedule.)

I will always love you, Athena.
