Sandee and I are new here. I'll post a proper intro soon, but in the interim I want to thank Bear and the members here for putting my mind at ease. Sandee had surgery (left hind leg) Tuesday and she came home midday yesterday. I'd been concerned that though her appetite was good, she wasn't trying to get up for any reason and that she had not pee'd since at the clinic the evening of her surgery. After reading Bear's thread, I told myself to step back and quit hovering. A few minutes later, Sandee suddenly appeared in front of the door, looking to go out! She navigated the ramp down into the dog yard and had a full and successful pee. Whoot, whoot! Then she hopped back up the ramp and returned to bed. Good girl. Very good girl.
Sandee is the fourth of our dogs to develop a cancer, but the first osteosarcoma and resultant amputation. While I thought I was pretty savvy about caring for my dogs after surgery and through recovery, this whole amputation thing has me totally befuddled, totally unsure of how to best care for my little furry friend. Thank you all for this forum. I'm so happy I stumbled upon it.
Welcome Cathleen and Sandy! We're so glad you were able to stay strong and feel better with Bears help! Be sure to to check Jerry's Required Reading List for more tips. Can't wait to hear more about your pack!

Hi Wander and welcome to the road to recovery!! Yes, recovering from not only a major surgery, it's compounded by trying to adjust and figures things out, which can all be very confusing. It is also a time to celebrate every victory----ramp walking already? YAY! And double YAY for poops and pees!!
We are all here for you and offer our support in any way that benefits you and sweet Sandee
Let us know how much sleep your getting!? Or not!
Sending you strong energy and healing support, Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Sally, I just finished reading Hannah's thread. You're an awesome dogmom. She's an awesome dog. Look how far you've traveled together. You're an inspiration!
I'm also working through Jerry's recommended reading. Sandee's trip from limp to amp has been nine short and fast days. The outcome would likely have been the same, but it would have been nice to have known about this site earlier. There's so much great info here!
Hi Cathleen and Sandee!!! I am so happy to hear that Bear's story helped you. I also hope you both are doing well. Bear is doing awesome with his potty skills now. But every now and then he will surprise me with a front paw hand stand. He is a right hind amp, but he will want to lift that left leg. Good luck with Sandee's recovery!
Bear is a 7 year old Rottweiler. He became a Tripawd pup on April 1, 2013.
