Hello there,

Lava had her front left leg amputated last Sunday. She has been doing ok so far eating and going potty.

Today I noticed her remaining right front leg is swelling up. I’m not sure if this is from laying on that side or from meds or what?

Anyone experience this? Waiting for vet to call back. Not sure if this is serious?

Hi Bria,

It's always best to check with your vet (like you did) but swelling in the remaining front leg is pretty common.  Amputation surgery can produce a lot of fluid and it has to go somewhere.

What is Lava's activity level at this point?  Our vet said only short, leashed potty breaks for the first two weeks post op.  Sometimes too much activity will lead to more swelling, but sometimes it just happens.

It's great that she is going potty and eating- cause for celebration!
