We are at Day 12 with Bella. We let her come upstairs to sleep last night, and stairs in both directions were no trouble.
She has the sutures that will absorb instead of needing removal, and her post op appointment isn't for another week. Is there a way to tell if they are done and the wound is totally healed? I would like to give her more time out of the cone, because her bumping into things with that as she tootles around on our main level is more worrisome than her hopping. She does lick at the incision at times if the cone is not on, but not sure if that is still a big problem or not.
Thanks!
Since external stitches are usually out between day 12 and 14 I'm guessing that the internal ones will have dissolved by now. But please ask your vet, I don't know for sure. Then let us know what they say.
When the incision is healed, you'll see that the redness is gone, and the skin around it isn't moist, shiny or tacky. It may be a little dry. If she is still licking, it could be that it's itchy. Applying a vet-approved anti-itch wound care spray like Microcyn can help.

My dog Juno had the dissolving sutures as well.
we didn’t use a cone. We just used a t shirt and he left it alone. We just had our follow up on Monday at day 13 and he was given the all clear to do as he pleases. As well as get a bath and scratch, etc. To be honest, I thought it looked like it could use another day or two , but the doctor said the way it looked was completely normal.
now that we’re 17 days out it looks amazing. All of the crust and flaking is mostly gone.
We are at about the same place then!
Bella's surgery was Jan 27th. We had a check earlier than expected as the surgeon looked at Bella's incision while she was in for chemo this past Thursday. It is also healed well, but we are keeping the cone on at night because the scabby flaky stuff is still there. Between that and the fur growing back it must itch and she licks it. . I meant to get some of the Microcyn that was recommended, but with chemo and trying to get her prescriptions and supplements while we have ice storms going on, that one fell between the cracks.
I can't wait to get her a bath, but we are waiting until after she gets her white blood cell count check a week out from chemo. I don't want to expose her to anything at the doggie wash place where we go if her immune system is down. We don't really have any way to wash our dogs inside our house; in the summer we hose them down outside! 🙂
I hope things go well for Juno.
