Sometimes holidays and week ends can dictate when the stitches come out. Maybe it means they come out a little sooner than "average", or stay in a little longer than "average".
I'm sure the Vet won't take them out of the incision hasn't healed completely.
I've been VERY lucky with my dogs not bothering stitches (knock on wood) and did need a cone. If you're there to watch your pup, you could takemitmoff while he's in your line of sight. If you need to go out, I would put it back on though.
Generally after incision has healed and he takes the stitches out, he should not have to wear the cone. But talk to your Vet about that, okay?
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Adam was the same with his cone from the vets, but I ordered him a soft one and he wore that when he was unsupervised. He was much happier in it. In the beginning he wore a kids tshirt instead, but as it healed he got itchy and so we had to move back to the soft cone because he went crazy trying to nibble the itch away!

That could be just about right, it really depends on how quickly the dog heals. Like Sally said, your vet won't take them out until it's time. Hopefully this will be it!
