Got home tonight and Stella broke her collar, pulled off the soft ring/cloud collar around her neck, and messed with her incision a bunch. Nobody's happy! We might need to go in tomorrow and have it checked. She even ripped her shirt off trying to get at it!

I don't feel we need to go to the ER vet, but I emailed some pictures to my vet and will check in with her in the morning. She pulled off most of the scabs, and there is one section about an inch and a half looking which looks raw and open.

Sutures and staples came out two days ago, she's clearly bothered at this point. She's in a fresh shirt, and won't be happy but she's wearing the cone tonight.

Sigh!

Please monitor Stella carefully and keep her from disturbing that opening any further. Use double cones, a t-shirt, and a close eye. You don't want any infection to set in, but do not put anything on the area either.

Please keep us posted...

It looks better this morning after a night in the cone, I'm staying home today to keep an eye on her and be ready in case the vet wants to see her. New scab is already starting to develop and the skin around the incision is back to normal color.

I agree, we certainly don't need infection!

Oh wow, I am glad it's looking better today. You poor thing, i know you must be a mess. You're doing the right thing watching after her, I am sure it's probably itchy as all get out. I hope today is better!

Back from the vet... Stella is back on an antibiotic, plus a topical ointment called Vet Aid Enzymatic Foam. Sorry honey, the cone must stay on! Sigh.

Stella is doing pretty well, not happy with the cone, but it's necessary! She's good about taking all her pills, so has been on two days so far of the new antibiotic.

There's one tiny place (slightly bigger than a quarter inch) that looks deeper and more open than I like, but it's all clean and clearly healing. The rest of the incision looks good and is developing scabs. Some parts look almost fully healed! I'll probably send my vet pictures tomorrow if that bit doesn't look better by morning. It doesn't look terrible... but I'm in human services not nursing so the professional opinion is helpful and welcome!

She's getting around really well... I'm looking forward to having her incision heal so we can all learn our new normal!

Our other dog Loki would be happy with that too... He has been completely out of sorts and not his cheerful self. Much more clingy and needy than normal for him. But, Stella actually gave her play growl at him yesterday! That was exciting. Not ready for wrestling yet you guys!

That sounds like good news 👌😊 Huck had a small area like you mentioned from removing a couple of staples himself. The doc re stapled the area but not very well. Anyhow, it was the last of the areas to heal. I just made sure he didn't mess with it and it did eventually heal. As long as it doesn't get red, oozey, swollen it will probably be ok. Never hurts to show them photos, it's good for all of you to be on the same page. Sound like your little girl is getting back to her old self, I'm so glad for you 💗💗💗

Thanks Paws! (Jackie?)

I just put an adorable picture of Stella in the blog.

She's clearly exhibiting less pain than before the surgery, and we are so thankful!

Back to the vet today, they cleaned the incision and the parts that are taking longer to heal. Crazy journey! I have to keep reminding myself the surgery was only 22 days ago... I actually think she's doing pretty well.

Last night she played rock! Hard to describe, but it's her favorite game. She has a large smooth rock outside that she always liked to roll and move around using her front paws. I'm not sure how or why she invented this game, but a few times a month the mood strikes her. We thought those days were behind her, but last night she played her game quite well with just one front paw to move it around! She looked quite proud of herself. We are too!

GET THAT ROCK STELLA!!!!  YOU ARE, AFTER ALL, A ROCK STAR!! 🙂

OMD!!!   WE HAVE TO SEE A VIDEO OF STELLA PLAYING ROCK!!!   What a precious vision! 🙂   That truly is a wonderful sign that, in spite of all the "wound issues", she's doing remarkably well for this early in the journey! 🙂
