Hi all - my dog Harley has his Oncology consult for Osteosarcoma on the 14th of January.  We know that they will be doing bloodwork and a chest x-ray but they also mentioned possibly doing an abdominal ultrasound.  Is this standard (the ultrasound)?  His chest x-rays were clear on the 23rd of November but a lot can happen in 2 months.  He's recovered well from amputation surgery and is getting stronger every day.

As far as I know, those diagnostics are pretty standard depending on what they are treating. They are looking for any changes that will modify their chemo plan. An ultrasound would pick up anything like metastasis or another possible cancer. But don't even worry about that Grasshopper, just focus on making every day the best with Harley and taking treatment one step at a time. It's so cool that he's recovered and is bouncing back!

Glad to hear how well that voy is doing.the 👍

I think it was avout three weeks from amputation that my Happy Hannah  had her dirst chemo.  I really  cant remember  if they redid xrays or not.  I know ultra sound wasn even mentioned.  I really think in my case anway, that "may" have been because the Onco knew funds were tight.   I also think some Bets recommend  it and some don't .  My interpretation  at the time was that  it was an extra added layer of "investigating deeper"...if that makes sense??   All that in the FWIW column.

Anyway,  as Jerry mentioned, it may  be recommended  depending on what Harley's specific situation is.
