I feel so truly blessed that it's only been 2.5 weeks since Shelby's surgery and she is doing beautifully. You guys were right:
1. First two weeks were tough.
2. Once we got the phantom pain under control, things improved
3. Once the stitches came out, she was a new and improved dog and continues to be.
Shelby has begun hydrotherapy and is enjoying it immensely. (If I ever figure out how to post a picture, I'll post a darling one) Her Ruff Wear harness arrived today and we love it….she hopped around, showing off and is quite pleased with herself.
I know there has been much sadness as of late….I am so sorry and my heart hurts for you who have lost and those whose pups are not doing well. I have been there countless times with so many of my dogs and I continue to hold you up in prayer and good healing positive energy.
Thanks to you, my extended family.
P.S. Oh Cometdog, have you noticed anything different in my signature??

Thanks for posting this great update! It is certain to help others just facing amputation see the light.

OH!!! That's wonderful! "FUREVER"!
A round of ice cream for everyone - it's on Jim!
Darnit, I was going to take bets on when the change would occur! I had the over/under at 2 months!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

Well, she's been here since April 26.......but in my heart I knew she wasn't going anywhere. I took her in as a hospice foster and just rejoiced when it looked like we could remove that *hospice* label.
I'll admit it.....I'm a multiple-time foster failure. I can let the healthy ones go....it doesn't mean I don't get attached because I do, but I have always felt a calling for the special needs kids. I've got a house full of them now, though they'd all probably scoff at the label of "special needs". They're all great 3 and 4 legged furkids who love life.
And I love this girl with all my heart and soul 🙂
Congratulations on becoming Shelby's official forever mommy!!! She is a very lucky dog!
Can't wait till you start posting pictures of your beautiful little girl!!!
Angel Jake and Wolfie's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
Awe, what a great foster failure story. Shelby is definitely blessed to have found you. Congrats! to both of you!

You are an amazing person....at one time I thought I would search out special needs animals and older animals....but I'm a wimp I guess...losing Bob, then the long battle with OJ (cancer, chemo, kidney failure over almost four years) then the short devastating battle with Magic, I couldn't do it...at least not right now...well, I did get the sick kitty in the litter, he picked me and we cannot get rid of the stupid infection in the blue eye which may now be in the green eye...I have total admiration for you and all of you who didn't come to these battles by accident, but literally picked the battle...God bless all of you for the hugeness of your hearts
and yea Shelby...you go girl
Oh what great news! Thanks for sharing that with us. Shelby's success gives hope to sooo many pawrents. Here's to many, many more remarkable miilestones.

That's great news about Shelby doing so well! Also great news that you are now officially her forever Mom!! But how could you not be with a beautiful girl like her? I'm so glad for both of you that you found each other - it was definitely meant to be ! And like Diane says....
I have total admiration for you and all of you who didn't come to these battles by accident, but literally picked the battle…God bless all of you for the hugeness of your hearts....
My sentiments exactly!
Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Congradulations to Shelby for a getting a furever home, that is so wonderful. So happy her recovery is going so good, YAY ! What a great thing you do fostering the special needs dogs. I am sure you are blessed many times over with the love they give to you.

Tasha lost her battle and became my Angel on May 4 2011. Forever in my heart….

Thank you everyone for the congrats and warm wishes.....like I said, the special needs one have always reached in and tugged at my heart. A couple of years ago, I lost my blind rescued golden (Gracie) to bile duct cancer.....two weeks later, a little darling golden girl ended up on my doorstep as a foster. She had been a BYB dog and at 6 years, had been bred half to death.....the owners decided they could make more money off of designer dogs (grrrrrrr) and they were ready to dump her in the overnight box at animal services. Thankfully, a good samaritan intervened, took the dog, contacted a friend who is president of an all-breed rescue, she called me and within less than 24 hours, she was at the vet's being spayed. I agreed to foster her.......my heart was so broken at the loss of Gracie and the rest, as they say, is history.
But I almost had angst because I kept trying to tell myself that I shouldn't adopt her because she didn't have any special needs......LOL
Two and a half years later, she's a mischevious little joy.....my ray of sunshine and I know she was meant to be here.
And so is my Tripawd girl 🙂
JakesMom....in a couple of months, I'm trying to get together with some rescue friends over in the Tampa area for lunch at a dog-friendly place. I would love to have you join us!
