Just wanted to check in and let everyone know that things are going well Sasha is healing well and her staples are due to come out tomorrow. I was able to work out deal with my neighbor while I'm in class and it's going very well for the most part. The vet did give us some Xanax and that has been helping a lot at night and if she's having a particularly anxious day but we haven't had to use it very often luckily.
I was curious though, when is it ok to get her back into some of her normal activities? We've been taking her on car rides with us because that seems to help her attitude a lot but what about walks/running/swimming etc?
Oh thank you dear Sasha for letting us know how you are, I have been worried. I'm sooo hoppy you're all good again and have excellent care while you're folks are workin.
OK here's the thing girlfriend...take that exercise slow. Start out with a short walk, maybe like a half block, and build up from there. It's hard for us Shepherds to stay calm and not overdo things, boy don't I know about THAT. So don't get mad if your people keep your walks reallllly short for a while, like maybe 1/4 of what you used to do. And let me tell you, the minute you need to sit down during a walk or while playing or whatever, that means take a break and chill, get it? If you gotta sit, that means you're overdoing things. And if you keep overdoing things, you'll take a longer time to get strong again.
When I overdo things, my people cut back on my playtimes and walks completely for a day, then re-start my activity again little by little. Believe me it took me about six months until my back leg was strong and not dipping all the way to the ground. Core strengthening games (check out the Gear blog !) and cool agility-type fun like wobble boards really helps me stay strong, and I know it'll make you look fiiiiiiine!
