I purchased a Ruffwear Webmaster harness for Blaze. He is accustomed to wearing a harness when we hiked in the woods. I did not like that the strap on his old harness fit across his chest directly across the wound and incision site. I like the webmaster because the strap comes up between his legs and I wont have to ask him to lift his remaining front paw to put it on.

My question is how soon after surgery did your front amp dogs start wearing this style harness? Blaze will have his staples removed Monday.

Some say as soon as the incision is healed. It was several months before I used one. My fear was that the area would be sensitive, so maybe I waited longer than most.

If you choose to use it early after staple removal, I would recommend using it for short periods only at first, and watch for skin irritation, swelling, etc. or for signs it is causing discomfort.

Domino was wearing his Webmaster harness about 5 days after his amputation lol. We kept a t-shirt on him in between the harness and the incision until his staples were out. We never had any problems with rubbing or ouchy spots but I guess it all depends on how the harness lays across the incision. It may be different for each dog.

Domino had his left front leg amputate on May 13th 2014 after being hit by a car. He's now living a happy healthy life on three legs :)

Generally we recommend waiting until the stitches are out to use one. We've never had anyone tell us the harness irritated or cause pain to the area, but to be safe if you need to use it before stitches come out, put a t-shirt on your pup underneath it. Thanks for shopping with Tripawds!

Johnnie started using the webmaster harness after his stitches came out - some with 8 days and others close to 15 days - and he was cleared for short walks outside the yard.  Also used a T-shirt on him until it was totally healed - about 3 weeks.

Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet.   Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues.   Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle.  October 17:  started having seizures.  Taking fenobarbital for seizures.  April 18: started prednisone.
