I took Rocky to the vet today to get his stitches removed from the amp site. They wanted to wait 3 weeks for removal instead of the normal 2 weeks because he was having a lot of oozing at the incision. So the stitches are out, and he has healed up nicely.
My main concern all along after surgery were the sores he has on his legs (as I mentioned in the presentation and diagnosis forum). While the majority have dried up after a change in meds, he still has 3 raw sores that just won't go away (2 on his front leg and 1 on his back leg) I used to put tube socks on his legs to keep the bandage dressing in place, but now with him feeling so good, he is much more active and he won't keep socks on.
The vet cleaned and wrapped the sores really well today and gave him a long sleeved t-shirt to wear so that the sleeve covers his entire front leg. If I don't keep the leg covered, Rocky will rip off the bandages when I'm not looking.
They also said to stop using antibiotic ointment and to start applying Preparation-H to the sores instead (for it's ability to heal and sooth).
Rocky has a large red spot on his tongue that appeared directly after surgery too. It looks different from the leg sores, as it's not open and raw. His tongue doesn't seem to bother him though. He still eats like a pig.
Besides the sores, he is doing really super well and loving all of the attention he gets now that he's tripawed. The funny thing is, before when he had 4 legs, some people were reluctant to approach him - probably because of his size. But now that he hops along on 3 legs, suddenly he makes new friends everywhere he goes. People are very interested in him and I think it's going to his head!
I was hoping to post some pictures of him, but after all of my attempts to make an avatar failed, I gave up on that and on posting pics. I even read the "how to" discussion in the tech forum, but it just didn't work. Oh well, computers aren't my friend.
Have a good day everyone,
Michelle
Michelle, what did the vet say abut the sores?
Hey, we're happy to help with the Avatar. Just send us the pic you want to use.

Glad to hear that Rocky's stitches are out and he's making friends . I was curious about the sores too. Has your vet done a skin scraping to determine if they are an infection of some sort? Hugs to Rocky

Well, it's good they don't think they're cancer. Hope they heal soon. Poor Rocky!

Poor Rocky and poor you. After getting a cancer diagnosis everything is scary. I'm glad the sores don't bother him and I hope they heal soon.
