Dozer is 6 days post right rear leg amputation.  He is getting around much better than I expected, too well in fact.  He is wearing hisself out trying to smell every blade of grass in the yard and field.  Has anyone had luck with the slings for rear ends and if so which one?????  keeping in mind that Dozer is 150lbs pre amputation and 130lbs after.

Just curious... why does Dozer need a sling if he is getting around so well?

Confinement is key to a quick safe recovery. But many users have found that a canvas shopping bag slit down the sides makes for a very helpful sling with handles if additional support is needed.

Hello,

I was reading Dozer's blog- sounds like he is doing great!  Dang- a 20 pound leg????  My tri-pug Maggie only weighed 18 pounds BEFORE surgery big-grin.

Are you considering a sling or harness for long term use or as Admin guy asked just to help through recovery?  If just for recovery the shopping bag idea works.    For long term use have you checked out the different types in the Tripawds Gear Blog?.  I know several rear amp pups here who use the Ruff Wear Harness, but I don't think they are as big as Dozer.

Hopefully some rear amp big dog parents will chime in with their experiences.

The Ruff wear harness is great as the walks get longer as you don't have to deal with pressure on the neck.  While my dog walks nicely on the leash normally after surgery she hops so fast i can hardly keep up with her and while I need to keep her on the leash this harness works nicely.  I use a ramp for getting in and out of the car so the harness helps me scoot her up there and lift her back down.
