We are 8 days out from amputation and everything is/was going excellent. We had a seroma drained yesterday and today it's just as big again - it took a week to get so big the first time. He has not been active or licking it and I've had as much compression on it as I can given the location. Should I be worried? Do you think it will reabsorb or should I call the vet again?

If I recall, my Happy Hannah's big ole' seroma looked like it was going down, only to fill back up again a time or two. It never got so big it needed draining, but I do recall thinking the fluid was finally being reabsorbed but returned. It seems that it went into her second week. Can quite remember As a rear legger, she was never given a compression bandsge.
But yes, check with your Vet. He may suggest gentle massage around it . Sometimes drains are used for a few days.

I would let your vet know, just in case they want to put a drain in it. Don't worry, it's not unusual. And in the meantime you can try a warm compress for a few minutes a couple times a day if he will let you.
Also, what is his activity level like? When a dog is doing too much too soon after surgery, it can cause fluid build-up. Right now he should only be going outside on leash to go potty and that's it until stitches are out.

ok thank you, and I'll try the warm compress.
His activity has been low, just what you said. I kept him restricted to one room for the first 4 days, so even potty breaks were just a flat walk through the sliding doors. Other than potty breaks he mainly sleeps, I'm seeing the old Horace starting to shine through more each day but he is very subdued still.

You are doing a GREAT job! It does sound like something pretty normal. Just let your vet know, sometimes a drain gets put in but it's no big deal, I know you can handle it and he sure can 😉

Horace is a very smart boy and he knows rest iis exactly what he needs to heal. Earing, drinking, potty break and more resr. You'll see Horace start to perk up slowly but surely soon. Hang in there!
