Hi, Can anyone help I have spoke to vet but like to get opinions too.
Dexter is now on predisone and he is on a high dose for 3 days now. Today I noticed some fresh blood a small amount in his poop. Called vet and he said to
not give him any tonight but I said I was worried about just stopping it so then he said halve the dose which I have done...
Im just a little concerned. Im seeing my vet on Tuesday so Im.keeping him on half dose bit worried this wont.be enough to help as it should do?x

I would definitely Not stop pred suddenly. Our Gus did not react well to it, but we still had to gradually wean him off f it over several days.

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

How much is he on? For how long? Any other meds? Do not stop suddenly! Also do not let them put him right onto another NSAID without a washout period. This was done to Ty with bad results. Is he on any. Pepcid, Zantac etc. Ty is I am to give it an hour before the Prednisone. You can just get this at any drugstore. There is also a medicine called Carafate which coats their stomach. Maybe your vet can get you some. Sorry if you are already doing these things, just some thoughts I had. Been there, done that sort of thingway-confused hope he feels better soon. Ty had a bit of blood last week, but We think it was his antibiotics.m

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

Thanks, he is on 35mg at the moment he weighs 36kg. I have been giving him natural yogurt to help coat his stomach. No im not going to stop.it but have halved the dose until I see the vet. Im hoping the lower dose will stop the bleeding. x He other meds are holistic.

Quite the roller coaster ride at this point, that's for sure.

Now, I cannot sayif thisis related or not...and I cannot sayif this was a sign of some "other" issue.....Happy Hannah did have a very, very small drop or gwo of bright red blood...kind of in the "outer mucosy"part if that makes any sense at all. This was when she was on the highest dose.

All I can say is, I noticed it once or twice and have not since then. Whether it was related or not...don't know, but it did happen at the same time as the bigger doses.

Happy Hannah sgarted out on 20 mg. gwice a day (total 40)...actually, the first day it was a total of 60 mg. because her breathing was so bad and I guess it was a "let's try anything" at that point.

I'm not good at kg...onlh kow "pounds", but she's 125 lbs.

Now I have her on 10 mg. once a day...and so eti es I give her another 10 mg. at night plus one tramadol...or so etimes just the tramadol at night..1 1/2 .

You and I are ki da in the same boat...no sense in doing anymore xrays or test..it's the "thing"...may have spread or whatever and all we can do is pallative.

I DO believe in adding the holistic approach and one thing I wish I had dones was add some of the mushroom therapy...I do Apocaps and K9 immjnity...butthere's so ething..-Yunnan" so ething and "Yunity" so ething.-.--.others can chime in...it maybe helpful to Dexter.

Se ding you the very best and walking by your side.
LOVE!

Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Yes we are, we may be able to help each other and compare notes..x

Yes, Dexter's breathing was getting worse and Pred was our last hope as he had also stopped eating.
Dexter is about 87 1bs x

We have tried everything except chemo, low carb diet, iscador injections, mushroom therapy, turmeric ( before pred use)
and the lump in his neck has nearly disappeared now with pred so hopefully it is having the same effect in his lungs!x

I'm curious if maybe he's been constipated? If so, he could be straining to poop, which could lead to a little bit of blood in the stool.

The herb Sally was referring to is Yunnan Baiyao. It can help alleviate the symptoms of metastasis.

Our one girl had hard stools, we added chicken broth (low sodium) to her food which helped. Also our experience with her was the red blood when seen was due to that. Darker black stools tar like usually meant blood in gastro for her. We added even broth to her water to encourage more fluid which helped along with diet change. Good luck.
