Hello. My name is Laura. I'm from Colombia and is a little difficult for me to write in english, but I hope you can understand me.
Tomorrow (June 14th), my dog "Junior" has amputation surgery (foreleg). I don't know what happened to him because found him and he already had his injured leg: His nerves were damaged and he didn't feel his leg.
I´m scared because I have many doubts of the care that I must give.
I am very happy to have found this site and I wish they would give me some advice about care after surgery.
Thanks.

Hi Lauar and Junior!
The love of a dog or cat is a universal language we all understand
YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Recovery can be rough for a couple of weeks so STAY CONNECTED!!
You have great information from the Admin Guy to read.
You'll need non slip scatter rugs for traction if you have hardwood floors. The first couple of weeks just short potty breaks and rest, rest, rest! No jumping, no stairs, no running, no long walks. Just rest and potty breaks.
Junior may not want to eat much at first and he may not poop for a few days. Drinking and peeing are important though.
What kind of pain meds will he have? Will he spend the night at the clinic? Most dogs here come home with Tramadol, Gabapentin, Rimadyl and an antibiotic. Keeping the pain managed can be a vit tricky at first, but you'll figure out what doses and when work best for Junior as you discuss this with your Vet.
I know this is scary and very stressful. You will be so happy when you see how well Junior does in three legs!! It will take a little time to recover from this major surgery, vut he will amaze you!
Let us know any questions you have, okay? We are here with you and we have a whole lot of first hand knowledge when it comes to this type of "stuff"!
Sending hugs!!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
