I wish you the best with your results. I'm thinking good thoughts. Our dog's leg was amputated Monday, June 21st. What an experience. The ghost pain is killing him and me. Drugs are doing ok, but he is so out of it.

Our dog, Dyre, had surgery on Monday, June 21 as well. He is moving well, drinking some water, and going to the bathroom by himself. He's not into the wet food we bought so we will try something else. The problem we are having is the ghost pain. I feel horrible for him. I'm struggling with this. I'm home with him by myself while my husband is working. These are the medications he is taking: Cephanlexin (Antibiotics)-3 times a day, Tramadol (pain)-3 times a day but will up this to 4 or 5, Gabapentin (ghost pain)-3 times a day 1/2 a pill each time, and Rimadyl (Pain) – He only gets 1/2 two times a day. I guess I need more of the support then he does.
Gus had phantom pain and I tell everyone, if their buddy gets it, hold on, it will tear your heart out listening to them yelp when it hits. By four weeks Gus waspretty well over it. Are you using gabapentin, that seemed to soften the pain, it is a human nerve pain drug, night help if your not. Paws up, Gus and Dan
My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010
Ohhh, we're so sorry to hear this.
Tazziedog, our favorite vet, gave some great advice about phantom limb pain here. Be sure to check it out OK?
Stay strong and pawsitive, it does make a difference, and it won't last forever.
Keep us posted.
