hi all,
my tripawd baby Simba had his stitches out last Thursday 2 weeks post op. After half an hour of being at home his wound had opened up a good inch and a half if not more. We too him back and he now has staples for another 10 days. I'm worried that the wound will split open again! Has this happened to anyone else? What can I do when his staples are removed to help?
thanks
katie
Hi Katie & Simba, welcome. Thanks for joining, your future posts won't require approval so post away.
What was the reason for Simba's amputation? Is Simba a dog or cat? Just curious.
Sometimes this happens with the incision, which we know is frustrating. The biggest thing you can do is to limit his activity as much as you can. Confined spaces and leashed potty walks only are the two best ways to keep the incision from opening up again.

Hi, thank you!
Simba is a cat, he had his amputation after falling out of a window and snapping his ankle đ sadly what I feared has happened.. Tonight he got his buster collar off and attacked his staples, splitting his wound open JUST before they were due to be removed! He has been stitched and stapled and kept overnight and will now be caged until he has healed which is just horrible but necessary.
they have also swabbed and sent it to the lab to see if there is anything causing him not to heal properly so we're awaiting results on that!
