I can only share my experience with my dog Bob. He was diagnosed with a VERY bad bladder tumor near his urethra. The only suggestion the Vet could offer that could "possibly" give us a little more time was Piroxicam. She also said it has shown to reduce tumors.
Bob was prescribed Sulfracate to help support his tummy, as Piroxicam can cause digestive distress. Even with that, he would still puke sometimes. When he did, I stopped the Piroxicam for maybe four or five days and then started back on the Piroxicam. Been doing this Piroxicam off and on now since July. Yes, we are on borrowed time, but it's borrowed time I feel like the Piroxicam has given us.
So ask about Sulfracate and also maybe about a lower dose of the Piroxicam.
Good luck
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
When my Dobe Nitro did metronomic therapy, we used Piroxicam along with the Cytoxan. I don't know that it was for "cancer fighting" abilities, but it was part of the protocol. It did help with his arthritis greatly, however.
Paula and Warrior Angel Nitro
Nitro 11 1/2 yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms. Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"
