I think Cora has phantom limb pain. I know she did after her first amputation. Then things were so chaotic it was hard to know what was going on and then she had her second amp.
She has been having "fits" and many of them come when she is sleeping. Having lived with a very severely epileptic dog, I was actually scared she was having seizures for a while. Now I think it's phantom limb pain. What is strange is that she starts biting her back leg, that's on her amp side. But then, Cora's brain isn't wired right and there's nothing there on the front for her to go after. When it happens nothing much calms her down. I usually end up putting her in her kennel and eventually she goes to sleep. So, I am going to start her on gabapentin but i'm still not convinced that's what's going on. With Cora's mixed up brain who knows.
So, some questions. Most of the stuff I'm reading is about phantom pain shortly after the surgery. We are a month and a 1/2 out (wow) from her 2nd surgery now. And when she has these issues, it seems to come in multiple episodes. Has anyone experienced that? Has anyone noticed phantom limb pain being worse after a lot of activity?
Any other advice or thoughts.?

Chris, as I mentioned in the chat, it's not unheard of for a Tripawd to develop phantom pain that far out. It doesn't happen often but it has happened here before. I would wait and see how the Gaba works.

I am still curious if anyone has noticed episodes of phantom limb pain come in clusters. And if anyone has noticed an increase of phantom limb pain after activity.
Last night I gave Cora her first dose of gabapentin. I can give her 2 pills, but since this is her first time on the med I just gave her one. As I mentioned, when Cora is having phantom pain she seems to have multiple episodes. And she's in that mode right now. She had an episode after I went to sleep, but this time when I started talking to her she quickly quieted down. Then she maybe had another episode? But if it was, it was very short and mild. This morning she is cheerful and playing outside. So, I'm feeling hopeful this will help.

It sounds like----except for her episodes...you and Cora are doing g really well!! I don't have any iSight to offer. Every. ow and then Happy Hannah, who is four months post amp. rapidly gets up as though so etching bit her in the butt. She gets up, looks st her rear end, walks round a few seconds, and then everything g seems back to normal.
Just think how faryou two have come-----GRAT, GREAT JOB!!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Occasionally Bear has in the past and still does cry out in pain. It is not phantom pain
, but is actually muscle cramping in his nub. A quick massage usually calms him down. 
Bear is a 7 year old Rottweiler. He became a Tripawd pup on April 1, 2013.

We have research that shows how humans get relief from plp (phantom limb pain) without drugs. Tripawds featured this at their link http://gear.tri...../#comments. It is very easy to observe the effect as your dog will place themselves on or next to the sheet application. I sure sign is when the sheet is observed as "bundled" after you have placed it flat as your dog will have "arranged" it for relief.
