AND THAT MOTIVATIINAL THOUGHT IS A FACT!!! 100% FACT!!!

Thanks so much for the pictures! He is adorable!! Soooooo cute!

You are a wonderfully strong advocate for your Calvert! And good for you for staying in touch wkth the vet about all that seepage!! Yeah, it's my understanding as long as fluid is light in color, NOT stinky or full of puss or red, it should "just" be a seroma You're doing a great job of staying on top of it. Taking pics for yojr vet, a great idea.

Yeah, sorry when I mentioned the cone, I forgot he wasn't chewing at the incision...he was scratching at it! Duh!

The other dogs realize he's "injured" and may react differently for a bit. Plus, it sounds UNLIKE most recovering dogs, Calvert is not sending any "stay away from me" signals...but rather "let's play"! They'll work it out among each other. Everything will return to normal with them and Calvert will hold his own just fine!
Plus, the other pups maybe feeling a bit jealous! Recovering tripawds take a lot of focus and attention!

Yoj are doing such a great job!,clap

Se ding you love and hundreds of tennis balls!

Thanks!!

The fluid is pinkish redish. not stinky, but doesn't look like just blood.

I think I'm having a harder time grasping that this is normal because Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and most of Monday, his incision was great. No drainage at all. and everything looked like it was perfectly healing. Then, he scratches, looses some staples, gets re-stapled, and it's a whole new ball game. Not the same at all. I was thinking he would get stapled back up and it would be the same as it was.

My advice to mommy's of future tripawds: Never become accustomed to the norm. It can change with the scratch of a paw. Don't anticipate the stages of recovery to be a certain way. Expect curve balls, and be flexible enough to acclimate to change. way-confused

VERY wise words!

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

You bet he'll play with that ball again! Just wait!

When Jerry had his seroma , it didn't happen until about a week after surgery. This happens quite often, seroma builds up and then goosh! As long as it isn't stinky or smelly it should be fine. Watch the incision for redness or irritation, and stay in close contact with your vet. Keeping activity to zilch will also help reduce the fluid build up.

Your words of advice are great, this recovery thing can really keep you on your toes. Hang in there.

Love those pics, it's nice getting to know your pack.

Calvert goes back to the vet tomorrow.. now his drainage is yellowing with small yellow clumps in it. And the incision looks yellowing and pussy as well.

Oh darn it. Ok, don't panic. You are catching this very early and it's going to be a lot easier to take care of because you're so vigilant. Give yourself a pat on the back and hang in there, things are gonna be OK. Keep us posted OK?

Good news!!! The vet doesn't think Calvert's incision is infected at at.. its just a wet scab since ive been keeping a dressing on it. The drainage she said looked like clotted serum, doesn't smell she gave me more antibiotics since its still draining, bit said hes looking good and doing great!!! Whew! Im just a paranoid crazy mom!

Paranoia is a "human side effect", of this nourney and, as far as I kmow, no cure has been found yet!

AND, you are NOT paranoid you are, as Jerry said, very viligent!! Quite frankly, my heart sank a bit when you described the coloring of the drainsge. It definitely required a vet trip! I know the recovery process seems never ending, but it does end, promise!

CONGRATULATIONS CALVERT, Now quite giving us all a fright, okay??

Hugs!

I'll have to get a pic of him and his t shirt!! keeping the bandage off now, drainage slowed down a lot. :) Gonna let air get to it and hopefully it will just dry up and be good. lol.
