Hi, we recently learned our 12 year old tripod has two small tumors in her lungs. This is the first sign of cancer since her amputation nine months ago. Her oncologist is recommending Palladia for a few months to help stabilize the tumor and prevent any growth. Does anyone have experience with this drug? What was your dog's experience? Did it help with the cancer?

Thanks for your help 🧡

Hi Jennifer,

I'm so sorry about your pup. Getting the mets news is such a gut punch, I remember it well.

Many people here have used Palladia with the hopes to control tumors. Honestly, we haven't seen a ton of long-term success with it over the years, but that's not to say it won't work for your girl. All dogs and all cancers behave a little differently even when it's the same cancer type.

Did your oncologist mention any other options? We have seen some advances in lung metastasis therapies come out since Palladia was released several years ago. Some are still in clinical trial phase and some are new to the market. Here are some links to check out:

Meanwhile, remember, your pup is still the same dog. She doesn't know what the scans said, all she knows is that she wants to continue living each day to the fullest, just the way she has been doing. Try to keep your routines the same, and know that the best medicine for her right now is for you to be present and spend time together. When you want to vent or feel upset and want to talk, we are here for you!
