fenway had a busy day yesterday, and seemed great until he came into the house last night. He couldnt get comfortable, and kept moving all around, and around, and around. Finally I went to pet him, and he whined when I touched his side (near rib cage, below wound) . His breathing seemed a little fast, his tail was between his legs and he seemed agitated.
Texted the vet, and she suggested giving him a few tramadol. It seemed to help, and he slept pretty well.
This morning he was up, and his tail was held high. Took him out to potty, and he came up to the house, but slowly.
Now he is back to keeping his tail down, and he seems guarded.
Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think its the chemotherpy? (I remember Samdog's mom said he was sick 10 days after his first chemo) and its been 10 days.
Any advice? Ps he just ate. So his appetite isnt off.
Thanks Sue
We experienced the same symptoms with Zeus one week after amp. For the first week after surgery he seemed fine but then he became reluctant to get up. He would whine some when moving around and when we would pick him up to carry him upstairs. Appetite, etc, was normal. We took him in to the vet and upon exam Dr. R said he was very tender in his back. Suspected that he had "tweaked" something what with the new way of walking, etc. Upped his pain meds and he recovered in about two weeks.
If it doesn't clear up soon, might be worth a vet visit just for peace of mind.

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Thanks for info Lisa. Ive spoken to the vet again, and we are going to do some bloodwork and a physical exam today.
We noticed some bruising on his ribcage (below the incision scar), this could be the source of his pain, but of course....what caused the bruising?
Apparently, this is about the time these problems start , 10 days after chemo. We did give him more pain meds this a.m. Fingers crossed.
Any other advice is welcome.
Thanks, Sue
Poor pup! Glad to hear you are seeing the vet. To me it sounds like he overdid things but better safe than sorry. Let us know how the visit went.

OK, good news.
Its an infection, under the skin, I think she called it a celluitis? (prob not the correct spelling)
Anyway, he is on Clavamox for the infection, and Tramadol for the discomfort.
The vet did some bloodwork, and his white cell count is high, so he is trying to fight off the infection. Also his temperature was also elevated.
Today he is resting, comfortably. Eating and drinking normally. Even went for a short walk around the yard, and gave a little chase to a squirrel.
Back to normal, or should I say, back to our new normal.
