How long do they usually need to stay on pain meds after an amputation?
We are 5 days post-op and I only have maybe 2-3 days more of Metacam. Is that long enough on the anti-inflammatory or should I try to get more? I do have lots of Tramadol.
Please review your veterinarian's discharge instructions, or consult with your vet if they are not clear, regarding the administration of any prescribed pain medication.
Speaking only from experience, we have seen the majority of pets get weened off pain meds, and start returning to their old self, anywhere from 8-12 days of medication. But every dog is different, depending on size, breed, and the prescription.
