Hi! This for our Cheyenne. She finished chemo back in September, NO more Episodes!!! and is starting to get back to herself.
We went back Oct. 10th for a one month after chemo check up, and everything was good, blood work, exam etc.., but one prescalpular (not sure if spelled right) lymph node was slightly bigger, than normal. The doctor said they are usually about 1 cm and this was 1.2 or 1.3 cm. (On the left side, same side as amputation) He put a needle in it to take tissue for testing. It came back as consistent with mast cell tumor cells. (what the tumor in her leg was) He said they call this an early relapse. They are suggesting to remove that lymph node and treat with oral medication, or to leave it in and treat with oral medication. (they did say removing it would be better) I'm waiting on an estimate of how much this would be, so my husband and I can talk more about it. The did mention she'll be on that oral medication (a cancer blocker) for the rest of her life. The doctor did say it's just cells that were found, her chest x-ray was clear, and she feels fine and doesn't have any idea those cells are there. He also mentioned this is slow growing so we have some time. Right now we feel a little lost. Any advice would be appreciated.

I posted in your other thread, but the gremlins got it.
Did Cheyenne have an abdominal ultrasound to check liver and spleen? As you probably know mast cell cancer tends to go to the liver and spleen in addition to the lymph system. I would want that result before removing the lymph node. How big a surgery is it?
As I recall from your other post, the meds the onc wants to use is the same one that was probably causing the episodes, is that right? Or was she able to have the chemo without episodes?
If she has issues with the chemo then what would her life quality be?
Did the vet say how they knew it was slow growing at this point? It seems a bit contradictory with early relapse, and only a month after her chemo was finished.
Best case to me would be to remove the lymph node if her liver and spleen were clean, and if that would slow the cancer, and be able to get a good path report. then the chemo to keep the bastard cancer at bay.
As always, the most important thing is what you guys think is the best for her life quality.
I think I told you before that after Maggie's amp the removed lymph node came back full of cancerous mast cells. We did chemo hoping to get 6 to 9 months and Mag lived almost 4 years and did not pass from that cancer. She tolerated the chemo pretty well, it was about 6 months.

Hi! The chemo was giving Cheyenne those episodes, once it stopped, so did they.
When they amputated they removed the closest lymph node because it tested positive for the same cells. All of her lymph nodes had been fine until now, ( June-October ) we did the chemo from the middle of June to the middle of september. So now he is suggesting an oral medication, a cancer blocker, that she'll take for the rest of her life.
It isn't metronomics , it starts with a p, like pivate or something. I emailed him for the name, it's also a human drug and fairly new no generics, and is expensive. I asked him to recommend a cheaper one. If I get the name, I can call human pharmacies and get a price. The hospital also wanted an outrageous amount for this non invasive surgery, so our primary vet is working on a price for us, and the doctors are supposed to talk about the procedure.
She has also become alittle more picky with food.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that would be Palladia and it's not cheap. People either have really good experiences with it or really bad based on what we've seen here. Do a search for it and you'll see all of the different experiences. Pretty sure there are no alternative ones that are cheaper unfortunately.
