Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum. I just got my 7-year old cat back from the vet today. She had her rear right leg amputated after a traumatic injury.

I did a ton of research before making that decision. My vet instructed me to support my cat while she uses the litter box as she can't quite stand up by herself yet.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to best do that?

Thank you all <3!

Hello!  Glad you found your way here for inform and support.  Your post jas been approved so post away.

What's your cat's name?  Did you bring him ho e same day of surgery?  Somet that can be a bit ....er.....unsettling  right after surgery as they shake off anesthesia  etc. Hang in there...recovery doesn't last furever..

Anyway, here are a couple pf links that may help you with pottying issues.  Reas through and see of you find the answers you need to help her.

Thank you! Her name is Angel, she's a long-haired domestic rescue I got a few years ago.

She came home the day after her surgery. I'm glad to say that the first few hours have gone relatively okay and she ate  some wet food.

She's been home for 12 hours now and hasn't used the litter box yet. I will go through the link you sent me and see if I can find some answers <3.

Lots of happiness from Shania and Angel to Sally, and Alumni Happy Hannah, and Merry Myrtle, and Frankie too!

I bet the name "Angel" fits her perfectly.💖

Sounds like you have everything pretty well under control this early on. The wet food should help give her some moisture to help   her want to pee.

Hi Shania and Angel, welcome! How is everything going today? I hope those tips helped. Don't worry too much about not pottying, pain medication can cause constipation for a few days. As long as she's urinating, staying hydrated, and taking some food, that's good!

Hi, thank you for checking in!

She's urinating but has yet to have a bowel movement. I've spoken to her vet and if Angel hasn't had a bowel movement by Monday, I'll take her in to get a check-up.

Her appetite seems to be coming and going. I've switched to giving her wet cat food made from chicken at a cool temperature. Anything else seems to smell a bit too strong for her!

The discussion forum has been a great help !

Aww I'm so glad you feel better, and that at least she's going wee.

Hopefully by this time tomorrow she will have done #2. Excellent job advocating for her.
