[Image Can Not Be Found]My 9 year old Rottweiler is scheduled for her 3rd round of chemo on Monday.  She has not had any bad issues, so far (diareah 2 days after 1st round a couple of times).  Today she developed diareah and seems to have lost her energy.  On Tuesday, her bloodwork showed her white blood count to be good with the platelets dropped, but the oncologist said it was not an alarming level.  Is this normal to develop diareah and lose energy almost 3 weeks after the chemo?  I am getting concerned this afternoon.  She seems to have lost all her energy ( but not her appetite--she just ate her supper)  You can tell by her hop that she is not able to support herself as well as usual.

Thanks,

Bailey's mom

Also, I want to add a photo.  Can anyone tell me how?  I don't know what to put when it pops up source, dimensions etc.

Of course I'm not a Vet and not giving Vet advice.  If you need to delay the third chemo a bit until this clears us and her energy is back to normal, that may be a good idea.  Maybe you could redo the bloodwork in another week and get the platelets up or do a more extensive panel to make sure she doesn't jave anything else going on...an infection, some anemia, etc.

Others will chime in who had diarrhea issues, vut I think it was closer to the dose of chemo rather than three weeks out.   Tiredness is generally closer to the dose too.

So her mobility seems a little compromised too?   She seems "weak"?  Any chance she's tweaked a muscle or overdone it?

How about her fluid intake?  Is it possible the off and on diarrhea has made her dehydrated?  Gums look okay?

Just throwing stuff out there!

Good that she's eating normally!  That's always a good sign!

Update when you can

My dog Sessy would lose energy about 3 weeks after chemo, and her WBC was low.  After first chemo session her doctor changed it from chemo every 4 weeks instead of three weeks, and that worked better for her,

Gayle - mom of beautiful greyhound Sessy.  Sessy diagnosed with osteosarcoma on 12/26/16, left back leg amputated on 1/2/17.  Feline siblings Mooshe, Tinkerdude, Odie and Bean

Sorry to hear Sessy loses energy at three weeks, but made me feel more comfortable about Bailey.

Thanks Sally for ideas.  She is just laying around today, but meds stopped tummy trouble.  I am anxious to get there tomorrow and get her blood work up.  She has had most chemo she can per her weight, so if they give tomorrow, may be less.  Hopping around today, but not as good as recently.

Her age and compromised remaining back leg are against her, but she had been doing so well before now.  Bodacious Bailey is one tough girl, and seeing her down hurts my heart.

Got my questions written down.  I'm ready for our 3 hour drive in morning.  Fingers crossed!

Three hour drives mean cheeseburger drive -thrus and Starbucks Puppy Lattes for Bodacious Bailey, and Expresso and chocolate for you!!

Let us know what the Onco says,  certainly every four weeks is an option sometimes, as is for Sessy, as well as a resuced amount.  It is cumulative so you can discuss either (or both) of those options for Bailey.

Be safe and update when you can.

Hugs

Ps...She may also need a bit of pain meds, or Rimadyl, something along those lines if he not moving arpund as much is because of a little pain.
