Hi everyone!
I am new here. My name is Hilda. I just chatted with the Admin and I told him/her that I might not be in the right forum but he/she assured me that I should post anyways.
Our dog Molly is 8 years old and was recently diagnosed with a mast cell tumor on her vulva. A biopsy came back as grade II. Our vet injected a steriod in the tumor and also prescribed oral steriods as well as anti-biotics (due to the biopsy wound). I just took her in to have her stitches removed and our vet said that even though the swelling and redness has gone done a lot, the tissue underneath the vulva still looks very suspicious (stretched, puckered, not normal). Due to the location of the tumor surgery carries a lot of risks, including reconstructive surgery would be required.
Does anyone here have any experience with this type of tumor and/or location of tumor?
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it.
We're happy to help any pups here if we can. If you do not get a reply from Tazziedog (Pam is a veterinarian), coonsider posting your concerns in the Ask A Vet forum too. Best wishes to you and Molly. Thanks again for joining.

Is it a low-grade or high-grade tumor? Grade II Mast cell tumors can be highly malignant or behave in a more benign manner. Were the borders clean? That location might make it hard for your vet to get clean margins. The best treatment for dirty margins on a Grade II Mast cell tumor is local radiation. There is also a new drug manufactured by Pfizer that may help, but you will need to find an oncologist to help you with that.
I would ask your vet for a copy of the biopsy report, and consider talking to an oncologist.

Thank you Pam and Tazzie for your quick and informational answer. I really do appreciate it.
I am a little embarrassed to admit that I don't know some of the answers to your questions. I will call our vet to find out more information.
By the way, our Molly is a Lhasa Apso and is one of the best dogs ever! She is kind and gentle and a great companion to my teenage son. The two of them fall asleep every night cuddled up next to each other.
Thanks again!
Molly sounds sweet. PS: Don't forget to log in so your posts will appear immediately without requiring moderation.
