I have done nothing formal, but I used some techniques I learned from an "infant massage" class I took years ago and applied them sort of to the dogs.  I also had an woman come to the house and do accupressure on Wrigley. She did some massage, but mostly accupressure. The main thing with massage is always massage away from the heart/body. Make all movements go "out" so that any of the "energy" you are working on "leaves' the body. Also, I have heard it recommended to avoid massaging the "cancer" site as not to disturb the cancer cells.

One book I did enjoy with Wrigley ( actually still reading through it) is

Hands On Healing for Pets : The animal lovers essential guide to using healing energy by Margrit Coates. I think she gives very basic explantions of simple practices we can do to improve the overall health of our furry friends.

But yes there is such a thing... especially in the equine world. Lots of folks swear by horse massage therapists.

My one dog has hip dysplasia and has had it since he was born...we have this routine where i stretch his hind legs out and then massage the muscles to give them strength to help support the hips. I do this with Zeus too but I focus a bit more on his remaining shoulder (he is a front leg amputation)..you know, as much as I know they love it, I love doing this simple activity as a way to really connect with my guys. I feel like I'm missing something if I don't lay on the floor at least twice a day with them and spend time massaging, petting or brushing...I call it, "mommy and me" time. It's a great way to connect with your fur kid.
