Hello, my German Shorthair Sammy was diagnosed with Osteosarcome in Feb, had her leg amputated, and has had 4 rounds of Carboplatin. She is doing great, but I noticed a lump on her rib cage. It is pretty large and feels attached to her rib. I just had blood work done a few weeks ago and it was perfect. I also had chest xrays that looked pretty good. He couldnt tell if it was mets or something else he said. She had 2 tiny spots.
Is there a surgey I can do to remove this tumor if it is cancerous. I have been doing research here and there and was wondering if anyone has gone through anything like this.

I'm so sorry to hear about Sammy.
I don't know enough about lumps on the chest. But I would suggest to get it looked at to see if it's cancer or a lipoma (fatty tumor). At least you'll know for sure. It's better to know because cancer is painful and lipomas are just fatty lumps.
Hopefully someone who does more than I do will jump in here.

Hi Sammy's people,
My Sammy has developed several lumps, scared me each time! The vets have to 'aspirate' it. (Not sure of spelling). When they do aspirate it they check for cancer cells and can usually tell you within a little while if it has cancer cells or not. It takes Dr. Pam about 20 minutes, probably less, it just feels that long while you wait!
Some of my Sammy's lumps are hard, way under the skin, on the ribs and whatnot. It has turned out great each time, knock on wood and thanks to God 🙂

we second what elizabeth and sammy recommend - go to your vet and have it aspirated. we too have a lump that's been on gayle's side since we first found her cancer. it is a lipoma and hasn't changed. peace of mind is priceless. good luck!

Ditto to the previous posts. You'll need to have a FNA (fine needle aspiration) to determine what the lump is. Hopefully it's nothing, but do keep us posted. We have our paws crossed for you.

Thank you for your responses. Sammy's mass was just a fatty tumor, thank God!! She seems to be doing great and
is 7 months past her amputation 🙂 I just ordered some K9 Immunity for her, I have been giving her Power Mushrooms
but thought I would switch her to this. I also have her on Evo red meat formula. Any other suggestions for holistic treatment?

Hi Jessie, You might want to look into artemisinin. There is a page on the bonecancerdogs.org web site about arte that gives a good overview of it. We are trying it with Abby. Don't know if it's working yet, but she seems great, so hopefully it is doing something. Also, it has been used to treat malaria for a very long time so is known to have few side effects. If you have any specific questions you could PM me.
The Dr. Dressler book is also a good overview of the various holistic options out there.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I agree on the fish oil -
Aloha Medicinals has the K-9 Omega and it doesn't smell nearly as bad as the fish oil from the health food store when you put it in hot water….
funny story …
On one of our camping trips before Riley passed away, I gave her the usual concoction for dinner which she ate except for her pills (typical) so I tossed them into the embers that were ever so slightly still hot in the morning….What a mistake – It smelled fish for 2 days…it permeated everything and even the people in other campsites were looking at us like we were eating rotten fish…We got home and promptly washed the outside of the camper. Its funny now, but it was absolutely awful.
