Hello everyone!

Hope you are having a good holiday weekend.

So the first few days after surgery I noticed that Vaughn was lying on his amputation side.   Now he doesn't seem to do so.  I am wondering if the first few days he still had some numbing medication in his body and it didn't bother him.

Just now I was happy to see that he was lying on that side but when he got up he yelped.

How did your dogs do with lying on that side?

Thanks

Hey Pam! Thanks for checking in.

I think all dogs just decide what feels comfortable on a whim. Some lay on the amp side all the time, some switch back and forth. It really depends on where they are laying and how they are feeling ... just like us when we have a sore spot on our body.

The yelping when getting up isn't too unusual. His body is beat up and sore, and moving around is certainly uncomfortable. If he keeps up the yelping I would rethink his pain control plan and talk to your vet.

Yep, ditto Jerry.  My Happy Hannah took several  weeks before she laid on her incision  side.  Vqighan probably  lay on that side at first because  he did still jave strong hospital  meds in his system.Every dog is different when it comes to that and does what feels best to them at the moment.

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

My rear leg amputee, Bizkit, is 5 days post surgery.  She lays on both sides.  We've only had one yelp so far, when I picked her up from her surgery side I think I put too much pressure on it with my body.
