Bella (8 year old golden ret.) had front limb amputated 9 weeks ago and is doing great!  Diagnosed with Synovial cell sarcoma (joint cancer).  Surgeon said typically not spread and lymph nodes appeared fine.  First oncology appointment yesterday  Blood work, lung x-ray and abdominal ultrasound - all good no signs of cancer. Oncologist recommend consider low dose chemo to help delay or possibly prevent progression.  Concerned about gastro upset and lowering immune sysytem - given no signs that cancer spread.  Appreciate any input to consider in making decision.  Have some hemp products - not sure if helping - but Vet and Oncologist thought fine to take with or without chemo.

Thankful for this site support and knowledge - Bella goes to physical therapy and massage therapy - really helps her.  She loves going there for the massages and lots and lots of treats.

Hi Bella and family, we're so glad things are going well. And she's getting PT and massages too? Lucky girl!

We had a great experience with metronomics , and if you follow the link you'll find all the experiences that we had as well as information about it. Here's another post to check out:

Metronomic Chemotherapy FAQs for Tripawds

The biggest risk of metronomics is cystitis, irritation of the bladder. Some folks have that that happen, but not many here considering how many have gone through it. Your oncologist will explain the warning signs and if it does happen, they can either switch Bella to Chlorambucil (Leukeran) or try another tactic altogether.

Stay tuned for more feedback from others. Let us know what you decide!

Hi Bella and family,

my greyhound Sessy lost her leg to osteosarcoma 1/2/17.  We followed up with six sessions of chemo to prevent/slow down further cancer.  As of Sessy's last chest X-ray last week.....she is still cancer free.  Sessy didn't appear to have any side effects from the chemo that I could tell.  This is my third animal that had cancer with followup chemo.  None of the three had side effects or felt sick from the chemo.  My first greyhound Babboo did have some diarrhea but she had lymphoma for two years.  She had chemo and went into remission twice before passing.  Even though she did have the diarrhea she never did feel sick from the chemo.

hugs to you and family. ...

Gayle - mom of beautiful greyhound Sessy.  Sessy diagnosed with osteosarcoma on 12/26/16, left back leg amputated on 1/2/17.  Feline siblings Mooshe, Tinkerdude, Odie and Bean
