Lacey had her front left leg removed 2/3/23. We are now in the recovery phase and will update here. This site has been such great help.

Jerry can you help me get this link added to my other post because I have shared that with close friends to keep up to date.

I added a link in your original thread so every one can follow along!

And if anyone wants to go back to the beginning of Lacey's story you can find it here.

I'm glad surgery is behind you and you are on to recovery and your new normal! Remember to keep track of every little victory and every spark that is Lacey, soon your girl will be back to herself.

Per Karen I hopped on over. Thanks Karen.

Happy to hear Lacey had a better day.

Keep it up Lacey!

Ye, hopped over here too!

LOOOOOVE the photo of Lacey.  She just looks like such a gentle and sweet Soul.

And agree with Karen, keep track of every little victory Lacey has.  During recovery  "little" victories  are HUGE victories 👏👏

It is happening exactly as all of you have suggested. Ups and downs throughout the day and then all of a sudden she's back and I have to dial it back and ask her to rest. She's dropped a few "turds" where we sleep at night but its funny how that isn't much of an issue anymore. Wait, just so I am clear. It is an issue and I do clean up and get her outside but its just a slight detour on the road to being healthy I can not freak out about.

My friend brought her a dinosaur...

Oh thank you for starting a new topic (and thanks for your help Karen!)

Yes it's really true for almost every dog: many ups and downs. As long as you stay in tune with the pain signals she gives, and keep her activity in check no matter how much she wants to wear herself out, everything will work out. I know you are already doing just that.

LOL I know exactly what you mean about the poopicon. It's just such a blessing to have a dog who is not in pain and on the way to recovery, they can pretty much do anything they want!

That is the sweetest picture! Lacey's getting spoiled and totally deserves it sf-kiss

Lacey has decided our help up and down the stairs and the leash outside is no longer needed. Things have been going as planned, thank God! She likes going out back and sitting in the sun. She is teaching me patience and it’s just her and I getting sun. Today we got snow and she loves snow.

Friday is our next appointment. Hopefully we get stitches removed and her brothers (silver lab and bichon) back home.

We are grateful for this time! I hope everyone who reads this and has to face this horrible disease is doing ok and battling as best they can.

Love the pic of Lacey and the dinasour. It brings back such happy memories seeing a pic of a happy choc lab.

Lacey, you are going to feel so much better when those stiches come out. Congratulations you are doing an awesome job!

Stitches were removed today and we immediately started chemo. When we started this journey (fight) we decided no stone would be left unturned, hence right into chemo. While at the vet and on the way home Lacey reacted as you all said she would. She was back. At this moment though she’s napping next to me on the couch.

I was told by the oncologist that Hill science makes a special food for dogs with cancer. I have not looked into it yet but sure will. She didn’t have any feedback to share because I guess it’s new???

thank you all for the support

So happy Lacey is feeling better!

I have only fed any of my dogs science diet once. That was about twenty years ago due to him being diabetic and Science Diet WD was the only thing out there. I have not heard of Science Diet for cancer.

Since Lacey is having chemo you might want to consult with a pet  nutritionist for options. Also here is a blog for eating healthy. You might find some Information on a diet for a dog having chemo

Good job Lacey!

YAY Lacey! You're flying over those milestones like nopawdy's business!

I haven't heard of the Hills food. Nancy pointed you to some good resources (thanks Nancy!) and I would also recommend checking out our What is a Vet Nutritionist post for more about finding someone to help come up with a tailored recipe for her.

The Just Food for Dogs company makes a custom cancer diet too. I really like their approach. Let us know what you decide to feed her in Eating Healthy!
