Kodi was diagnosed with a soft cell sarcoma tumor in his right rear leg. We had the leg removed two weeks ago and he has recovered very well. He is a 10 and a half old yellow lab. After spending about 8 thousand on two aspirations, one biopsy and the amputation we have decided that we will not give chemo or additional labs and x-rays.

His long term diagnosis is not good but he is well now and we will enjoy as much time as we have left together. He gets around well on his 3 legs and is in great spirits again. No more tumor/pain meds so he is playing and enjoying life again.

awww Kodi you look great.  Keep kicking butt buddy.  No one will judge whether or not you do chemo.  Its a very personal decision. I chose to do it and do not regret doing it.  Like I said very personal journey 🙂  Besides there is no time stamp on any dog.  Some dogs who had chemo don't make it very long & some dogs who didn't have chemo survive a long time.  Like I said no time stamp & statistics are just basically guesses :)

He looks really good!!! My girl, Shelby, had her left rear leg removed about 2 weeks ago too (and just had her stitches out yesterday). She's been on chemo for another cancer for about 4 months and like you, I try and just enjoy every day we have together. She's done well. A little stiff and slow today but overall, she's doing well.

Hugs!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Kodi you look marvelous! They did a nice job on your amputation site, which I know sounds like a weird thing to say but I prefer it when they take the leg up to the hip, it just looks cleaner that way and you won't have any weird muscle wasting thing going on.

And one thing we like to say around here: nine out of ten statistics are wrong! So prognosis schmognosis I say, you're going make those vets look silly and keep on keeping on for a long time!

Thanks for the video. Feel free to share more and keep in touch.

Kodi is beautiful, and I agree with Sally, Jerry and everyone else here.....every dog is different and you have done great by him. There is no right or wrong in making these very difficult decisions, but do what your heart tells you. Take one day at a time, like all of us here do, and treasure everyday with your sweet boy. We will all be here for you along the way.

Just wanted to update everyone here that Kodi had to be put down 2 days ago. He recovered well from the amp. and was doing really well.

Unfortunately the cancer spread to his kidneys. We had to make the tough decision to end his life. This whole biopsy cancer/amputation/ process has been very stressful and expensive.

Kodi was a very tough happy dog.God we miss him.cryingYoung happy KodiImage Enlarger

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Kodi was a handsome guy, and obviously well loved. You did everything you could for him, and you gave him quality time without pain. He was so lucky to having such a loving, caring family.

Hugs,
Carol

We are so sorry to hear about Kodi. May he run free with all of our angels at the Rainbow Bridge.

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Ohhhhhhh nooooo! I'm stunned and heartbroken for you and your family, I didn't expect this kind of update and am just really sorry. Cancer is a terrible, unpredictable disease, I can imagine how upset you are by the turn things took. He was doing so well! Please accept my condolences.

If you're up to it, do consider posting in "coping with loss" if you'd like to share more about Kodi's life with us, we are here to lean on.

Kodi, run free big guy, cancer can no longer touch you.

Oh, I'm so sorry.  What a beautiful boy.  My heart aches for you all.  Hang in there. RIP sweet Kodi

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14.  She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self.  Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14
