Hi everyone,
I had posted in another thread on Kaiser's amputation recovery a few months back and I want to provide an update on Kaiser's chemo treatment and Yale vaccine treatment. So far Kaiser is doing fantastic! He has had 4 rounds of 6 carboplatin treatments and the two injections of the EGFR/HER2 Yale vaccine. He has had very little side effects from anything, just a little fatigue after the treatments that last only a few hours. The only issue we have run into is he gets a little obsessive licking at the chemo injection site and sometimes a little razor burn in the area they shave for the chemo injection but really no ill effects from the chemo itself. No side effects from vaccine injections either. The whole process has been very smooth! We are so happy to announce that his blood work has been normal so far and his latest chest xray shows no lung mets. No visual signs of cancer as of today!! We remain hopeful and are so grateful each day that he is still in our lives. We will provide another update after his remaining chemo treatments. Thanks for all the support!
Hi Matt! I'm so glad you posted, thank you for letting us know things are doing really well. It's GREAT NEWS!!!
His side effects are pretty minor all things considered, that's very cool. What a great sign that things are going according to plan. It's what we want and hope for whenever anyone joins this community. YAY!
For convenience I put Kaiser's previous topic here:
Kaiser's Amputation Recovery - Loss of appetite during recovery and less water intake
He's sure come a long way.
That's great news for Cooper! Hopefully the chemo treatments and vaccine are working. Kaiser received his final round of carboplatin yesterday, he is doing great and bloodwork is normal and no lung mets. He has a chest xray in a month and the Onco vet suggested an option to put him on dasatinib going forward. Not too familiar with this chemo treatment so we're deciding if we should go down that road. Thanks for the reply.
