JAKE! You are a very smart dude dog!! No challenge is too big for you to figure out!

As you hear so often, every dog is different, every experience is sifferent. For the most part dogs either have no side effects at all, or minimal nausea and/or tiredness for a day or two, or three. Recently, it's been noted that some dogs here had a bit of diarrhea. In rare k stances the sice effects are more severe and the chemo is stopped. After it's out of their system they bounce back just fine. That's the good thing abput chemo, you can stop if need be.

Many Oncos will give you Cerenia in case there is some nausea. Some Oncos have yiu give a couple of Cerenia before and after the chemo.

My Happy Hannah had four rounds of Carboplatin for osteo. She had zero side effects! Never needed any Cerenia and never missed a meal.

Jake will jave blood work drawn around the two week mark before the next chemo If his white blood count is low, the treatment will be delayed until the WBC returns to normal. This is nothing to worry about if it happens. Some Oncos actually say it means the chemo is working if that happens.

Just a couple of scenarios you may, or may not encounter.

Oh, and it's always fun to go to a drive thru and get Jake cheeseburger and an ice cream cone as a reward after each treatment!

Ler us know how it goes!

Hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Hi there heart

Eurydice had 5 sessions of chemo (carboplatin) so far and will have her last one in a couple of weeks.

She takes 1 Cerenia pill (for nausea) the morning of her chemo and 1 pill a day for the 3 days after chemo.

Zero side effects so far, as with so many other dogs here.

They do a blood test before every session so if things are not absolutely right chemo may be postponed for a while.

Have no fear, Jake will sail through this!

And remember, you can always stop if you want to.

Big hug and cuddles to your sweetie pieheart

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)
