Every dog is different in their reaction to and need for pain medications. We gave our girl tramadol and Rimadyl for the first week and a half. What we did for Caira then was weaned her down to half doses of tramadol every 8 hours. This kept the edge off, but kept her awake and alert. She took this dosage for another 2-4 weeks.

May 2001-Jan 21, 2010.....I'm a dog and I'm AWESOME!..... Always.

I didn't keep an accurate journal of meds, either, but Holly finished with Tramadol just a few days after she had her stitches out. By then she was down to just one - but I can't remember if I gave it to her at night or in the morning. I monitored her to see if she appeared to be in pain and she seemed ok without it. But each dog is different, just like us. Holly was also so happy when she slept in our bed again... and then we remembered how much room a little dog can take up! 🙂
Good luck!

Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!
