My dog Tula had a forelimb amputation yesterday and came home today. She hates wearing the cone and shows no interest in licking the wound at the moment (I'm not even sure she could reach it).

How important is it to keep the cone on her at all times. If we are watching her all the time can she have the cone off? Can it be off while she sleeps?

She still has her bandages on. I'm not sure if that is a factor. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome! Back tomorrow with more feedback but for now yes leave the cone on. We’ve seen many pets destroy stitches in seconds when their people were certain they couldn’t.

More tomorrow...stay strong!

I don't think we really used the cone for Murphy, but we did use a t-shirt to keep his incision covered.  There's also a soft cone, where it's just an inflatable collar that prevents them from turning their head enough to get to it, that might be a better solution than the traditional cone (our Cassie used to walk into walls with the traditional cone!  lol)
